Erm... I hate to say it, but I saw Austin Powers before the Bond films.

Hmmmm... well, I also liked Jim Carrey movies, as well as this weird one called Jumanji. Additionally, I liked My Fellow Americans, Batman Forever, Mission: Impossible, The Santa Clause, Star Wars, and The Little Rascals.

Yep, I sure am a dope, huh?

Begone from this forum immediately!

Ha, ha, just kidding. Kinda.

Anyway, of course Bond was a part of my youth, my formative Bond experiences were OP and AVTAK, and there was this fascinating new technology known as "video". MOONRAKER got a severe workout on this "video recorder" device, often in a "skip through the boring parts" way. Other stuff, let's see - Raiders of the Lost Ark, Superman(s), E.T. (I guess - though I have no nostalgia for it these days). Most of the usual late 70s/early 80s era, really.

Then there was Wolfgang Petersen's The Neverending Story.
Gordon Hessler's The Golden Voyage of Sinbad.
Joe Dante's Innerspace.

Depends on how you define "saw" and how you define "youth." What's the cut-off?

My earliest movie memories date back to when I was around 7, and saw TV airings of The Beatles' "Yellow Submarine" and the Adam West "Batman" movie, which each in their own way blew my mind...and still do!

Soon after came the TV showings (the first in the US) of the early Bonds, with "Goldfinger" and "You Only Live Twice" emerging as distinct favorites. Then came "Live and Let Die," which made me a Roger fan for life.

In my teen years (and in the theater as opposed to on the TV), the biggies would have been "Moonraker," "Superman," "Raiders of the Lost Ark," "BladeRunner," and "Amadeus." This was probably my busiest movie-going period (as I suspect it is for most people), and just in general there were a lot of interesting films in the late 70s, early 80s.

Aside from the above, however, most of my favorite films I didn't discover until my college years and later, and the majority of those were made before I was born.

Without particular classification:

* The Indiana Jones films
* The Bond films that were aired on TV when I was a child, i.e. the Connery ones mainly, and some Moore films
* Tootsie (I saw with my mother when I was only 5, it must have been one of my first film seen in a cinema, and I've alsways thought of it as an incredibly funny memory)
* An amazing collection of Westerns that I watched on TV with my grandfather. I remember very well those starring Clint Eastwood, but there must have been many others. Later, Dances with Wolves was great, but I must have been very close to my teens, so I'm not sure it counts.

Awe, rewinding the clock to my life as a wee young one in the mid-late 80's... what did I like...

Ghostbusters
Indiana Jones (although that scene in Temple of Doom where the guy gets his heart ripped out really damaged me. I couldn't watch that scene for years)
The Karate Kid
James Bond (of course)
Superman 1 +2
Batman
Ninja Turtles
&
Robocop 1

Those are all I can remember right now.

The Bond films I really liked as a youth were Diamonds Are Forever, Goldeneye, and Thunderball

Other films:

The Matrix (I thought it was the best film I ever saw. Still a very good movie.)
The Mask
Baby's Day Out
Rocky movies I-IV
Clueless
Empire Records
Sidekicks lol
Ace Venture Pet Detective

Man, I guess that's what I can think of right now. I know I loved a lot of movies during my youth.

Okay, Dell: Write quickly, if you have to think, they couldn't have been that outstanding. Limit initial list to ones you saw in the theatre. Go!
  • The Towering Inferno
  • Jaws
  • Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn
  • A Fish Called Wanda
  • Raiders of the Lost Ark
  • Back to the Future
  • What's Up Doc?
  • Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
  • The In-Laws
  • Inner Space
That's ten; good start. No Bond films listed, because that would be too obvious here.

The Longest Day, Tarzan's Greatest Adventure and Zulu. Then came Bond.

I always remember watching a movie called "The Sheriff and the Satellite Kid" in the early 80's on video.

And another one was Condorman, which was supposed to be Michael Crawford's big blockbuster and it was a BOMB.

God yes, I remember both! Did the former one star Cary Guffey from CLOSE ENCOUNTERS as a space kid? And CONDORMAN felt pants when I saw it as a kid let alone now. I remember it kept having animation all over the live action.
