I'm not claiming that I was the first person to ever talk about the novel.

But my research involved getting the original serialization in Russian from the Library of Congress, speaking with Fleming's literary agent about how much it scared them, tracked down a photo of Gulyashki which I included in the article, and plenty of other gems.

There is talking about something and then there is researching it.

And, pervasiveness of fan media being what is was then (pre-internet), your James Bond Journalism (which, judging by the work I've seen of yours must be excellent) certainly brought it to the attention of a fan community.

In any event, it is an interesting gem.

Hello. The book was also published in Italia. It was in 1967 and title is “Avakum contro Mr. X”. They changed "07" for "Mr. X" but the novel is the same. I've translated this book to spanish language and now it's in www.archivo007.com : http://www.archivo00...=221&Itemid=384

The Italian book is easy to find in the net, and cheap too. In Ebay they want more than 2000 dollars for an Australian book:  http://www.ebay.com/...b-/170665416398

After all these years, I've finally found an Australian copy at a price I could afford.  Will post more once it arrives and I've given it a read.

I read a copy of this several years ago.  Apart from significant issues with the plotline and the characterization of  the "07" character, the translation appears to have produced prose that's stiff, even mechanistic.  I'll be interested to read your thoughts!
