He would have been 93 years old. I suspect that it would not have happened, reboot or not.
Well, Pacino is still young enough...My money's still on Big Al.

I suspect Desmond may have bowed out gracefully
I've always thought of his final lines in TWINE as exactly that, him bowing out gracefully.

Yes. but wasn't he planning to make an appearance in Die Another Day?

I do agree. While I would have welcomed his return, I still think he most likely would have left the role. It would have been interesting, however, to see him return to the serious tone from the early Connery films. In a way I feel sorry for Daniel Craig for the fact that he never got to work with Desmond. I would have liked to have seen how Desmond's Q interacted with Craig's Bond.I don't know whether or not Desmond Llewelyn would have continued in the role if he were still with us, but I most certainly would have welcomed his return in each and every film as long as he wanted to continue in the role. He completely owned that role, and made it an institution in the franchise. Also, it would have been interesting to see him get to return to the more serious tone of his character that was present in FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE.

Personally, I suspect he had decided TWINE was it for him.

As it was I'm sure he would have been too old - they way he left the scene in TWINE was a great way for him to leave the series.

Does anyone else remember him saying Dalton's portrayal was the closest to Fleming? I know Desmond was a big Fleming fan, so I would have liked to see his take on Craig.
Yes. I remember an interview with Desmond back in 1987. When asked how Dalton compares to the others, he said that he was closest to the 007 in the Fleming novels, that he had gone back and read every single one and that he was also a darker Bond. He commented that they had all been great to work with, but that Dalton was the first to really take the role very seriously and also the first to allow James Bond to be seen with his hair messy, from water, and clothes dirty.

- For one thing, there would be a massive car chase at three in the morning, when Bond jumps in his DBS before the torture sequence.
- Q would probably have flown out to Montenegro to show Bond what gadgets are on the DBS.
- Bond would probably have rappeled down the side of Drydens office to escape after he shot him.
- The Poker scenes would probably happen off sceen, to give the film a more action oriented flavour.

Yes, I remember him saying on TV in 1987, that Dalton had read all the books and that he was the first Bond to let his hair get wet and leave it out of place.
