It's now 2300 GMT and the Penguin 007 mini-site is yet to be launched. Where is it? I know it's April 1st, but this is a pretty poor April Fools.

I gotta admit I'm pretty under-whelmed by the cover art on these new paperbacks, and where are the Gardner books? Even Colonel Sun is left out and it was always included in the past. I don't know, I'm not impressed. Afraid I may have to sit this print run out...and if Glidrose/Penguin can't sell someone like me a Bond book, well, they got trouble.

I haven't seen the whole collection of covers (I just searched thru Amazon's listings) but yes I agree, they are totally flat and lifeless.

The best covers have got to be the Pan range around the 50s and 60s. Superb images that were truly evocative of the story and atmosphere.

I rather the like the cover art for the new Fleming re-releases. They're very artistic in their simplicity. The covers for Casino
Royale
and Thunderball are my favorites simply because they evoke the essence of book while leaving plenty of room for that element of mystery. If I wasn't a Bond fanatic and I saw those books sitting on the shelves, I'd probably walk over to them and buy one, if not more.

Yes it's really strange. I dont' know the reason, but I have my theory. Monday is a public holiday (something they didn't originally realise when they were planning the site perhaps?) and the technicians have the day off. Hence, the delay!

At last, the site is up! It's not bad. I took the "Which Bond baddy are you?" test and apparently I'm Auric Goldfinger. Oh, and on the links page, there is a nice little link to CBN.

I don't really like these covers either, very plain and simple, they don't really catch my interest, which is a shame becuase I was looking forward to getting a new set of Flemings as I currently have only a complete set of the old Signet books, and half a set of US book club editions.

Type over abstract stock photography doesn't do to much for me. These covers are very bland.
