Goldfinger song too forced!? You've got to be kidding? Were you around when Goldfinger was first released in the theaters in 1964? I can understand Tomorrow Never Dies by Sheryl Crow or Die Another Day by Madonna being forced, but seriously how can you say that about Goldfinger. It's the song that just about every other Bond song has tried to mimic.

Im sorry, but I cant stand the lyrics to that song. Sounds like they've just made up any silly random thing to rhyme with "gold" or "finger". Then theres the awesome finish: He loves only gold/Only gold/He loves gold/He loves only gold/Only gold/He loves gold... lol. Sorry, I think its a silly song. Well sung, well performed and sounds good byt the lyrics irritate me.
I dont see what being around to see it in '64 has to do with it, everything else I listen to pre-dates 1970.

Hey, "You Know My Name" had the the title of the film in neither thy lyrics nor the title of the song (and glad we all are of that, I'm sure), yet the song WORKS for CR.

So long as the song WORKS for QOS, then that's what counts, regardless of whether the title makes it into the song in any way.

I could see this as a ballad, maybe.

Well said, Daddy B, well said. Even though I wasn't a fan of the Cornell song for CR (the one thing about the movie I don't like), I do like that they didn't try to force the name of the movie into the lyrics the way they do with most of the films.

I also agree that I've never liked when they put the movie title in the song when it doesn't really fit. It always ends up sounding too forced.

Quantum of Solace would make a great song title, but like others have mentioned, it does not necessarily have to be in the lyrics. I hope it's not. Unless some very clever lyrics are written, I have a feeling it would just sound too forced.

I gave you my promise
For a Quantum of Solace
But a flame from your past
Meant our love couldn't last

Blah, blah, blah, etc, etc.

Ah...

Hmmmm, how's this?

The fire of love once burned so bright,
But it seems that the night will control us;
I offer you a measure of my soul:
A Quantum of Solace.

I don't see what the problem is. There are plenty of rhymes for solace, for example the theme song could go something like this -

These are the further adventures of double-o-seven
His lady Camille is a Bond babe from heaven
From her all he needs is a quantum of solace
But she's been having a threesome with Gromit and Wallace

So he turns his attentions to an agent named Fields
She's new to all this, but to his charm she soon yields
All he's expecting from her is a quantum of solace
But when the undies come down she's a russian called Boris

This is the ongoing saga of Bond 22
The writers were striking and we knew not what to do
So Babs in her wisdom said "Quantum Of Solace"
Now the press are annoyed cause they think that it's bollix

To start, I agree with the other poster who mentioned Goldfinger. Don't get me wrong, it's one of the best Bond songs, and a great performance from Shirley Bassey, but in my honest opinion, I've never cared for the lyrics. I find them silly.

I also think the lyrics for Tomorrow Never Dies and Die Another Day sound very forced. To defend Tomorrow Never Dies though, I thought the lyric worked fine in "Surrender", which I think really should have been the title song.

Those are actually the only three films off the top of my head in which the lyrics bug me, so perhaps I should have been a little more specific in my last comment.
