Hi all

Not seen this mentioned anywhere, but was flicking through Marketing Week (or the other one) before a job interview and I saw that Scalextric are doing another set with the chase car being a black Alfa 159. The article also mentions a Top Gear set, but I've not been able to find anything online.

Cheers
Graham

Cool! A spider would be more stylish and on par with an Aston Martin DBS, but anyway, I love Alfa Romeos!

Somehow, the Alfa 159 (even the top of the line model with the 3.2 litre petrol engine) doesn't seem like a powerful enough car to warrant much of a challenge to the DBS. The Alfa 159 is only good up to about 149 mph

Aren't there supposed to be some Ford GT-40's in this movie, too?

Can this be right? Surely we'd only get Ford group cars in the film, wouldn't we? If it's a car of similar size to the 159 I'd be very surprised if the new Jag XF wouldn't be there instead. Although as Ford is selling Jaguar and Land Rover even them turning up again would be doubtful (although I think that would come too late to affect Quantum; it looked like that Range Rover we saw in spy shots was in the film).

This is the first I'd heard of an Alfa being involved. In addition to the Aston Martin, I only recall the GT40 also being mentioned.

I never really bought the Ford GT (or GT40) story; they're terribly expensive and Ford don't make them anymore, so trashing them is a bit hard to justify (unless it's a GT40, in which case replicas are relatively cheap). As well as being very expensive, they didn't even make very many GTs, so they're hard to get hold of. Nothing's impossible, but a cameo or playful scene nothwithstanding, I don't see a GT turning up as likely- especially not for a big chase.
Plus it's a bit silly; I mean you can't have everyone driving around in supercars, can you? I know, I know; it's Bond.

Oh gosh, I hope that doesn't turn out to be true.

Really wish I'd pinched the mag now as not seen anything online still.

Have to agree it's a pretty one sided battle between the two although the 2cv did OK in FYEO against those Mercs

Well, that info came directly from Dan Bradley, who one would think would be something of an authority on what cars are going to be in the film.

Before he started work on the film, and that quote was oddly written too. I don't think it was watertight.
Perhaps they have got a load of GT40s (or replicas more likely), we'll find out in time. Anyone know any kitcar guys? There's a company called Gardner Douglas who are the probably one of the larger replica makers in the country.

It appears that both the Italian 'Polizia di Stato' and the 'Arma dei Carabinieri' use some Alfa 159s.

Perhaps the police (either state or military) will be chasing Bond?...

And perhaps their 159s are modified for increased performance?...

Its certainly plausible that the 159 will be modified. The Citroen 2cv used in FYEO was, or so I read, modified by having a flat four installed in lieu of the stock two cylinder boxer engine.

My hope is that if they do in fact use an Alfa 159, they explain in the story why it would be even the merest challenge for Bond (perhaps M threatened to cut off his manhood if he didn't return this second DBS intact and unscratched).

I'm just relieved that we'll see some non-Ford vehicles this time...
