If you live in the UK, you may have seen the panorama episode about scientology. It's on youtube as well. I'm not one for demonizing people's religions general, but look up 'dangerous cult' and you'll find this "church". Besides the fact that a science fiction writer made everything up, there's the way the church itself behaves. Hubbard created a doctrine called 'fair play' which said it was okay to do just about anything to enemies of the church. It's supposed to not be used anymore, but if you watched panorama, you know that it's not true. They'll follow you, try and dig up dirt on your past, and publish it (a former male prostitute critisized the church, so they put up fliers all over town telling of his years old indescretions). Also, they are very litigation happy. Critisize the church and they'll likely sue you. Add the fact that, due to it's powerful and wealthy members, the church is extremly wealthly.
Oh, as the topper, back in the 70's, the church ran the largest domestic espionage operation in US history, called Operation Snow White.
Tell me it doesn't sound like the perfect evil organization for Bond to combat at some point in the future?

Bond's new enemy- The Church of Scientology!

To be fair, ALL religions are just made up bunches of nonsense. In the case of the more powerful monotheistic varieties, the stuff was made up centuries ago over long stretches of time when literacy and scientific knowledge were far from widespread. Most people are so used to their own beliefs (in most cases having been raised in them since childhood) that they fail to see how ridiculous they appear to any outsider.
As for Scientology, everything you say is true. It's highly unlikely that anything similiar to them will become the inspiration for a Bond villain in the future however. Paul Haggis, the co-writer of CASINO ROYALE and BOND 22 is a Scientologist.

Bet you wouldn't dare say the same thing about Islam.
Why do this lot get so much grief? They would appear to believe in the best form of defence being attack, but sod it - let them believe what they want to believe. As long as they leave me alone I've no bother with them - same with any black magic mumbo jumbo.
