Filming to take place in the middle of February

Confirmation that filming for 'Bond 22' will take place in Panama in February, plus some details, can be found in Spanish through The Associated Press. Not many new details that hadn't been previously rumoured really, but still nice to have confirmation.

Scenes from the new James Bond film will film in mid-February in a colonial neighbourhood of the capital, it was reported on Tuesday.

The filming will take place in at least two sites of the so-called Casco Antiguo (‘old quarter’) of the city on the Pacific coast, where the seat of the National Institute of Culture and some private buildings will be used.

The filming will last about a week and will be conducted mainly in the afternoon and evening, according to Ariel Espino, director of the Office of the Casco Antiguo.

Espino met last month with the director of locations for the new 007 movie, ‘Bond 22’, which will star British actor Daniel Craig.

“We offered full cooperation, helping to manage traffic, isolate the area of cars and people”, during the shooting, said Espino, who hopes it will attract tourists from around the world to the Casco Antiguo.

He said he understood that scenes will also be shot in the province of Colon, north of the capital, and approximately 700 Panamanian extras will be used in the shooting.

Four years ago, ‘The Tailor of Panama’, starring former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan, was filmed in the Casco Antiguo.

The Casco Antiguo has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Can't be. She only had 600 sisters.

Sorry, my mistake.

The other 100 are her French-Algerian boyfriend.

Presumably all trying to 'do' the 600 sisters. I wonder if they'll use 50 Frenchmen and 50 Algerians...

Interesting that they will only be in Panama for a week (or is that just a week in Casco Antiguo?).

I think it's a week in Casco Antiguo, and then more filming in Colon (which I believe is where a boat chase will be filmed).

Everybody's "Colon" will be suitably irrigated if they drink the tap water there.

The filming will last about a week and will be conducted mainly in the afternoon and evening, according to Ariel Espino, director of the Office of the Casco Antiguo.

Hmmm, Only a week, thats not long. Looks like Panama isn't a 'main' location then. Unless, the have a stand in Pamama in Pinewood.

Only a week in Casco Antiguo, Matt. They'll be doing more shooting around the rest of Panama.

yeah, I doubt that Panama will stand in as Panama. Although I'm not too sure how I would feel about having a made up country though. Doesn't seem like that happens too often in films these days.

Guess that does indeed confirm it. According to this article, some of the crew were already there too.

Well, it sounds like the evil General will be there, so maybe they will create a fictitious country, so as not to offend people from Panama.

I hope Panama is not a stand in for an imaginary South American country.
Even though Korea has demonstrated against the portrayal after Die Another Day it's just ridiculous. I can't take an imaginary country serious. Hope EON won't try political correctness too hard here...

with th confirmation of a south american country as a setting, surely points towards the likelihood of a Risico type storyline concerning drugs..?

I personally don't think that it lends any more credibility to the possibility than before.

I think it does. And if it does, then it is more likely to be a fictional country.

Is your heightened awareness for the Bond films the same as for all films?

I only ask as, if you see all other films without the attendant inspection of production in the run up to release, how would you know that 'it doesn't happen too often in films these days'?

Well, I'm by no means an expert, lol. Based on the pre-production and production of various films that I've kept track of over the years, it doesn't seem that this happens that much. Actually, perhaps this sort of thing never really happened that much to begin with, or conversely perhaps it happens more often than not. Certainly if we are to take books, comics, films, video games, etc. as a whole, we'll find that this sort of thing does tend to happen (the creation of fictious countries that is).

I really hope they don't do a fictional county. I feel towards that the same way I feel towards seeing an actor holding a can of soda that says "Cola" on the side. It takes me out of the movie and I associate it with a cheap production. James Bond goes to Panama, filmed in Panama. That's what I want to see.

Agreed. But sometimes they do it because they need one country to be the "Baddie country" and that sometimes upsets the country in mind. The one country that doesn't seem to mind have lots of baddies is the UK.

I hope that they don't set Bond 22 in a fictional country as well. That was one of the only things about LTK that I did not like.

Agreed. Never been too keen on that aspect of Licence to Kill (and to a slightly lesser extent, Live and Let Die). If the country is going to play a relatively major role in the film, I like it to be real.

I can only agree with all of the above comments about hoping there is no fictional country used in BOND 22. The use of Isthmus and San Monique in the past have been two of my pet peeves about the movies.
