But come on: isn't Graves the best Brosnan Bond villain? Isn't the swordfight a Bond action classic? Aren't the titles refreshingly different yet Bondian? Is Madonna's witty appearance that bad (and worse than that of Maggie in FYEO)? Aren't Jinx and Miranda totally sexy? Wasn't it good to have Bond back in an Aston? Isn't the Q scene sharply written and fun? My DAD has some redeeming features, no?

Erm... no; no, it doesn't.

Do you own it on DVD?
If so, why?

I got it for Christmas; it came with the set.

My brother got angry at me after I took him to see DAD.
He was ashamed that I liked the movie.
Recently, DAD was on TV and I got an angry text from my cousin who saw it and was bitterly anti the film. He wondered how on earth I could defend it.

I dunno. Just like it!
Mind you, I liked Congo.

But come on: isn't Graves the best Brosnan Bond villain?

Er, no - thats Dr Kaufman. Gustav Graves was a bad pastiche of a pantomine upper class Englishman that Kiwi Lee Tamahori was enjoying abit of "pombashing" with. Appalling character.

Isn't the swordfight a Bond action classic?

The swordfight was an above average action scene. It stands out well because of the dreck surrounding it. When when scene is applauded for not being [censored] then that really condemns the film.

Aren't the titles refreshingly different yet Bondian?

Not really. They screamed "Pierce wants to be treated seriously as an actor so we allow him to grow a beard and dunk his head in the water"

Is Madonna's witty appearance that bad (and worse than that of Maggie in FYEO)?

Witty? witty? WITTY? I can think of many adjectives to describe Mad Donnas embarassing cameo but witty certainly isnt one of them. I remember the audience laughing out loud at Janet Brown and John Humphrys in 1981 - in 2002 Mad Donnas was greeted with horror.

Aren't Jinx and Miranda totally sexy?)?

After the line Yo Mamma,Halle Berrys sexiness just went out of the window. And she jumps into bed two minutes after meeting 007.My mother says there is a word for someone like that and it rhymes with 'go'.

Wasn't it good to have Bond back in an Aston? ?)?

Hardly surprising? I'd have been more shocked if he had returned in the Citreon 2CV.

Isn't the Q scene sharply written and fun? ?)?

John Cleese doing a pantomine version of Basil Fawlty doing a version of John Cleese.

Doesn't your DAD have some redeeming features?

Mind you, over 30% of CBners, when polled, thought their DAD was awesome at one point!

But come on: isn't Graves the best Brosnan Bond villain?

No. He's one of the most forgettable villains in the franchise, and doesn't hold a candle to Trevelyan.

Isn't the swordfight a Bond action classic?

It's simply fair. Nothing extraordinary. They didn't quite use all the potential they had available to them.

Aren't the titles refreshingly different yet Bondian?

Sure. I've always liked the titles, aside from Madonna's song.

Is Madonna's witty appearance that bad (and worse than that of Maggie in FYEO)?

There's nothing witty about it. The worst thing about it is the dialogue, which makes me wretch. I suppose that it could have been delivered in such a way that it would have been enjoyably groan-worthy (Connery and Moore seemed capable of doing that), but from Madonna's and Brosnan's mouths, it just sounds purely filthy.

Aren't Jinx and Miranda totally sexy?

Only in the sense that they're physically attractive people. Beyond that, there's practically nothing about their characters that is sexually appealing. They certainly don't hold a torch to the real sexy gals of the franchise (ala Fiona Volpe).

Wasn't it good to have Bond back in an Aston?

Sure, but I didn't care that much.

Isn't the Q scene sharply written and fun?

It's passable. Hardly anything movie-redeeming, though.

Y'know, I don't mind people not liking DAD (which is very generous of me, you'll agree), but I do wonder how those who slag it off manage to cope with the other Bond flicks, most of which are stuffed full of the same kind of claptrap.

Amen to that.

Point me to the CGI tsunamis that look like they were ripped right out of an Action man advert in the other Bond films and I'll show you a green dog.

I can point you to a model aircraft crashing into a snowy village in GE. Would that help?

I think the problem with the CGI tsunami scene is that even if the CGI had been good, it still would have been awful.

( Just kidding. The ego hasn't gone that far out of control yet.)

I am not defending the look of the tsunami, and least of all the need for the tsunami. I am only saying that it isn't Bond's first felony against the global standards for up-to-date special effects.

(They were making very believable dinosaurs in 1993, two years before Goldeneye, by the way.)

Well, you could be onto something with the models. However, despite the poor CGI, there is also the complete stupidity of the scene in general. At least a plane crashing is belieavable.

November 2002 was Bond Month in England. You couldn't move for Bond stuff, and of course alot of that was about the new Bond movie, Die Another Day.

But as well as that there were Bond tributes, 40 year anniversary shows with about 150 past Bond actors and crew in the audience(!), Roger Moore presenting a Bond special, and features and interviews on the premiere.

I was drawn to this website, and registered and posted for a couple of months before returning again in October 2005. But I first discovered this site and really how amazing 007 was, in November 2002, even though I'd been a casual fan since I was 6.

I guess you missed the point that was being made. Bond films for the most part have always been outrageous and over the top, and DAD is hardly the first Bond film. I just find it laughable to read posts from people who behave like it is.
