AFTERMATH
Twenty-five minutes later, the Lear Jet landed at a US airbase in Sicily called Sigonnella. On their way to Catania airport the pilot had tried to contact Pratica again but the only thing he got back from the radio was static. They were ten minutes away from the airport when the air traffic controller instructed them to change course. When the pilot had enquired about Pratica they had simply told him that they did not have any information why Pratica was off the air as of then.
Two American MPs drove them to a single storied building where they showed them to a couple of rooms similar to the one Bond was given at Pratica. They were all told that someone from the British Embassy in Rome was coming down to see them. That was the last 007 saw of Captain Havers and his men, for he was assigned a room to himself.
Now, James Bond sat down on the side of the single bed, a depressing weight on him. He sat there staring into space, refusing to think of anything; refusing to believe anything.
It was an eternity and at least ten cigarettes later when there came a knock on the door. He had lost track of time and he glanced at his watch: 0300 hrs.
