I've got The Living Daylights DVD playing as I type this. It reminds me of something I've wondered. Did the film makers feel liberated that they could show rest rooms on screen? This is, admittedly, not a serious question. But it is an odd aspect about the movie.

We see Koskov "defect" to the British by going into a men's room and then out the window. Later, Bond goes into a rest room while checking out the rifle used in the phony assassination attempt.

Thankfully, neithe Koskov nor Bond encounters someone with a "wide stance" during either sequence. Still, it's like both scenes draw attention to themselves.

I've never considered that to be honest! The two bathroom scenes from the Bond series which immediately occur to me are Brosnan being introduced after appearing through the ceiling in GOLDENEYE and Craig pulverising the spy in the pre-credit sequence of CASINO ROYALE. Bathrooms must simply be considered as interesting locations by the producers :D

Well, there is someone named Craig in the Casino Royale one... :D

I'm sure alot of spy/drug transactions occur in rest rooms. It seems a practical place to do dirty business. :D

It's funny someone should bring this up because I've always found the restroom stuff in TLD kind of odd. Especially staging an extra there at the urinal as Bond comes through the door. Didn't anyone stop to think how that was going to look on a 50 foot screen? I mean, there's a urinal there, fine, we know he's entering a restroom -- did we really need to put a person there doing the nasty?

As we said in 80s, that was grody to the max.

I guess Michael G. Wilson loves restrooms. I suppose he'll defend it as a Goldfinger reference.

In THUNDERBALL, Bond was in the men's restroom at the Kiss Kiss Bang Bang Club, when he was washing the flesh wound he had received, while fleeing from Fiona Volpe and Largo's henchmen.

Plus, if you under protective custody, it's the one place a bodyguard never seems to enter. :P

We also see Bond sat on the crapper in Diamonds Are Forever. He hangs out in toilets a surprising amount for a big manly action hero.

Then we see a one being smashed to pieces and a load of naked men running out, later on in the movie. :D

And lets not talk about the scene in which we see Red Grant leading the real Nash into the train station toilet in From Russia With Love.

Nash had his water cut off. :P

Then there's Bond sneaking into a cubicle in GoldenEye WHILE someone is having a dump! :D

Just when I think we may run out of topics on CBn, here comes "Rest rooms in The Living Daylights." And it turns out to be interesting.:D

It's better than another favorite cars, favorite Bond topic.

I wonder if Fleming somehow came up with Bond in a train station toilet:

FLEMING (internal monologue): Ughhh... this damned plop, why won't it-- ARRRGGGHHH!!! Oh, I knew I shouldn't have kept my cigar lighted in here! The smell and the smoke are nauseating... ooh, now there's an idea... "The scent and smoke and sweat of a... something or other... are nauseating at three in the morning." Ha! Wait'll I tell Anne!
