I was just watching VH1 Storytellers: Billy Idol and stumbled across Bond in an unexpected place. Just before the end of the song 'Don't Need A Gun' guitar-master Steve Stevens breaks into The James Bond Theme. It only lasts for maybe 20-30 seconds and then it's gone, but very cool nonetheless.

Just got me wondering, in what other unexpected times or places have you encountered something Bond related?

Maybe you we're walking through a store and heard a muzak Bond theme, or were watching a film with an unexpected Bond reference. Whatever the case, feel free to share it here...

In Hungary, there are small few-minute-long tv programs made by the police about how do drive safely. Usually there are very stupid music under these, but one of them had the title song of "The Living Daylights".

A nearby movie theatre (one that doesn't play the crap TV commercials, ads, etc. for 20 minutes before the previews and film begins--but instead just flashes trivia questions across the screen).

The music playing suddenly switched to Gladys Knight's Licence to Kill and then Live and Let Die by Paul McCartney and several other songs. They must have had the Best of Bond CD.

I was watching a television spot for American Gangster a few weeks back, and the opening musical fanfare sounded suspiciously like that of the Bond theme from Live and Let Die.

One of the weirder scrapbook items I have is a cover of Time Magazine depicting violence in a third-world country and in the background is a video store with posters in the window for TLD and a picture of Connery advertising The Presidio.

One of the local Applebee's restaurants by me has a large Connery poster from Goldfinger up on the wall. This one where he is leaning against the Aston Martin. I've been in quite a few Applebee's & I've never seen this poster, or any other Bond stuff on the walls, anywhere else.

There's quite an extended scene in an episode of I'm Alan Partridge where we hear Steve Coogan's interesting take on the Goldfinger theme.

My favorite Italian restaurant in West LA (Guido's) now offers the "Vesper" as one of their premium martini's.

Of course, this is due to a certain regular patron of their's.

:D

Just tell Adam at the bar that Charlie sent you.

I was watching a motorcycle video and the Bond theme was playing in the background.

Was trying to find something decent on the radio yesterday and stumbled onto a station playing Duran Duran's A View To A Kill. Very nice indeed.

Just saw an episode of MythBusters featuring both the LALD boat jump and the Casino Royale boiler shot (in Madagascar).

I've got the same poster hanging on the wall in my print-shop!
(off course I've put it there myself!)

Saw Total Recall last night and was pleasantly surprised to see the main character reading some Fleming on his daily commute, The Spy Who Loved Me to be specific.

I was reading about the Titanic and discovered that

Connery, Llewelyn and Blackman all worked together in a film called "A Night To Remember." Which has long been regarded as a high point by Titanic historians for its accuracy.

and

John Barry did the music for a fictional film called, "Raise the Titanic."

I was also reading about Daniela Bianchi who played Tatiana Romanova in FRWL and learned she was in a Bond spoof called "OK Connery" which also starred many Bond actors such as

Bernard Lee — Commander Cunningham
Lois Maxwell — Miss Maxwell
Daniela Bianchi — Maya
Bianchi portrayed Tatiana Romanova, a Bond girl in the second James Bond film, From Russia with Love.
Adolfo Celi — Thayer (Beta)
Anthony Dawson

and it starred Sean Connery's brother Neil Connery.

Tuesday, 31st of July as Team GB took to the Gymnastics floor, we only had 'Live And Let Die' blaring out in the arena for our girl Beth's routine... we did pretty good too and the Bond vibe blaring out was a nice surprise!

In the movie "Earth Girls Are Easy", there is a movie theater with TLD in the background.

Went to Las Vegas last month and saw Celine Dion. Was blown away when she performed a medley of Bond themes.

OMG! SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FRICKING FABULOUS!

The light show was great but Celine did an outstanding job with Goldfinger, The Spy Who Loved Me, & Live and Let Die.

This might be old news on the board (it's been awhile since I've posted) but wanted to share anyway. If you find yourself in Vegas, the medley is a real treat for a Bond fan, as well as a Celine fan, to watch.

Read Ian McEwan's Sweet Tooth, and there are 2 Bond related bits: the main character reads Ian Fleming's Octopussy, and she and her boyfriend drink Chablis wine "because James Bond likes it" (I don't remember any Bond-Chablis connection, BTW, but I may be mistaken?)
The novel is an interesting - though dismal - picture of England in the early 70s.
