Story about the decline in tne number, and influence of critics, particularly film critics. Roger Ebert is cited as an exception to this trend.

Interesting article, thanks for sharing. It's a sad end of an era and a reflection of modern times.

One thing I was surprised the writer didn't take into account for was the effect of the Internet and blogs on modern criticism. It has literally given new meaning to the term "Everone's a critic." Why go to your local paper when you can get a concensus from a site like Rotten Tomatoes?

Not to mention the Web critics. The Web even spawned things like the Online Film Critics Society, which was basically big film fans who banded together to air their own views. All you needed was a good knowledge of film, writing ability and a computer. We even have that in a way here on CBn.
