I would probably say Goldfinger.

The perfect Connery. Great exotic scenes, underwater action, superbly beautiful Bond girl in Claudine Auger, a spectacular plot… everything.
Here is my ranking:
1. Thunderball
2. From Russia With Love
3. Goldfinger
4. You Only Live Twice
5. Dr. No
6. Diamonds are Forever
7. Never Say Never Again - and Connery never appeared again as Bond. Thank god.

After Goldfinger Connery started getting bored with it and it started to show.
In addition, Goldfinger started the 'Bond formula' that has been imitated by all succeeding Bonds, as well as some wannabes.

FRWL has possibly the best ensemble acting of the series - not one miscast part, a great script, terrific suspense and it has aged very gracefully into a period piece. It also has a real Fleming feel to it and the train fight remains one of the finest action sequences ever filmed.
Goldfinger has the best ever villain/henchman combo, a verrry sharp script - "Do you expect me to talk, Goldfinger?" "No, Mr Bond... I expect you to die." The overt jokiness kicked in here, and quickly got out of hand, as did the gadget mania. But here they worked perfectly. Yes it's stylised, but it's also stylish.
I think I go ever so slightly for FRWL.

FRWL had alot of plot twists, and Robert Shaw as Grant was a wonderful minor villain. It also featured the first appearance of Blofeld, and showed us just how obsessed he is with cats and fish. My only problem with it is that Kronsteen didn't get enough scenes.
YOLT is nonstop action, THE Bond movie to watch when you're bored. Not only does it feature S.P.E.C.T.R.E.'s most mindblowing plot, but for the first time I saw Blofeld's face, and wasn't disapointed. A good movie, th eonly thing keeping it from being great are the really crummy special effects.
DN was the first one..a classic. Doctor No was introduced a little too late in the film for my tastes, and his death at the end was pathetic, but overall it was a great start to a wonderful movie series.
GF is a bit too hyped, but it had a good plot and interesting bad guys, Mr. Goldfinger was pretty ruthless, and Oddjob was just wonderful. Sadly, like Doctor No, Goldfinger's demise was pretty weak (funny, but weak).

Just kidding. That movie could actually work as a cure for insomnia. I liked Thunderball a lot. I'm not as high on Goldfinger as the rest of you are. After you've seen it a million times, you start to look at the other ones.

Where YOLT and DAF lose their dignity facing the later movies, FRWL just stays a superior in almost every field. Moore Could've done all the Conneries, but NOT FRWL. Connery made it perfect.

If I had to pick, I would say FRWL- although GF is clearly one of the best examples of the 'Bond formula'.

Fiona Volpe, Domino Derval, Pussy Galore, Emilio Largo, Auric Goldfinger and Oddjob are some of the best in their respected categories.
