Rewatching CR, i was thinking that perhaps too much happened during the casino scene (stairwell fight and poisoning).
In order to unclatter the casino scene, what if the whole stairwell fight sub-plot was eliminated and instead Obano with Mr White turned up during the torture scene. Obano would cooly eliminate Le Chiffre for blowing his money with Mr White looking on implicitly indicating that the Organisation puts its clients first.

What if Obano teamed up with Mr White?

Well, fortunately for the film, the stairway fight eliminates an entire unneccessary subplot created for Le Chiffre's introduction; presumably, Haggis wrote in the fight so as not to clutter the next film.

A good call on his part, since I have a hard enough time keeping everyone's names and loyalties straight in Casino Royale as it is.

Perhaps that's why they've dumped Purvis and Wade for Bond 22; they kept making the last film's plot too convoluted.

I found nothing convoluted about Obanno's appearance in Montenegro. His presence served two points - to break up the poker sequence with some action and to stress Le Chiffre's desperation to win back the money he had lost. I wouldn't be surprised if Mr. White had been the one who had informed Obanno of Le Chiffre's whereabouts. And I'm quite certain that Obanno wasn't the only client whose money had been "borrowed" by the banker.
