My vote goes to Elliott Carver from TND.

Yes, Elliot Carver is high on my list of worst villains. But for me the very worst has to be Jeroen Krabbe's Russian General from TLD. Talk about the least formidable Bond villain ever. The guy was a complete wuss.

My friends and I have a drinking game called the Hugo Drax. We watch Moonraker and every time Hugo Drax does or says anything thats really lame, we drink. We get good and drunk.

Yep...my vote goes to Elliot, too. I like Jonathan Pryce quite a bit. I cringe when he's Elliot Carver.

I dunno, he's just so...foppish? I put more blame on the script than on him. Some of his big "trailer lines" were oh, so bad.

"There's no news...(bathroom break)...like BAD news." And then I'm just sitting there like until the next scene.

And when he mocks Wai Lin's martial arts...oh, that's just painful. Winceworthy.

I did rather like the manner in which he died, although he sure didn't put up very much of a struggle. He just sat there like, "NO! NO! NO!!!!!!" And thus, it became a B-movie death. Oh well, Elliot.

Carver's mocking Wai Lin was definitely Austin Powerish in its silliness.....an embarrassment looking back. Definitely painful to watch and juvenile. Bush league for Bond.

Another bad villain...Charles Gray's Blofeld from DAF. I think he was the least effective Blofeld with Savalas being the best of the three. Blofeld dressing up in drag.....terrible.

That part actually made me laugh. It was one of the few moments of TND that ellicited a positive response from me.

Agreed. This is one of The Living Daylights' greatest flaws: its villains. Koskov and Whitaker are not nearly a match for James Bond. They're certainly out menaced by their henchman!

I agree with you Mr. Wint! Carver was a good baddie and I think Jonathan Pryce did a great job..

Certainly Koskov was one of my least favorite villians, but my all time worst villian has to go to Julian Glover's Kristatos.. He just came off as a way too nice guy to be considered a sinister baddie! Plus his half-assed plan to run down Bond and Melina and assume the sharks would eat them was almost laughable.. I did enjoy that sequence but it just seemed that he gave up too easily once the rope that was dragging Bond and Melina snapped..

My top five worst villains

Kristatos(FYEO) - dull, dull, dull. Non threatening, makes no impression whatsoever. The parrot has more personality.

Koskov (TLD) - bit of a buffoon really and certainly not menacing, but is suitably smug and makes you want to see him get his comeuppance - which strangely never happens.

Carver (TND) - Just a bit silly all round, with or without the kung fu parody.

Renard/Elektra (TWINE) - Not quite sure which one is The Villain, exactly, so I'll nominate them both for never being as interesting as the script wants us to think they are, e.g. more could have been done with Renard's inability to feel pain.

I hate to say this but Auric Goldfinger has my vote. Don't get me wrong. I loved Gert Frobe's performance as the villainous millionaire. But he made some of the dumbest mistakes in the Bond franchise's history.

If I had been Goldfinger, Bond would have been dead after the first encounter in Miami. Oddjob is ordered to kill Jill Masterson and leave Bond alive? Huh? Of course some would say that Goldfinger left Bond alive to take the fall for Jill's death. Okay . . . I'm willing to buy that. But after Switzerland, Bond's should have been dead. But Goldfinger kept him alive. When Bond had first mentioned Operation Whatever-it-was, Goldfinger should have resorted to nefarious means to learn what Bond really knew. Then scrag his butt. But no . . . all Bond had to do was mention the name of Goldfinger's Fort Knox operation, and the latter kept him alive.

Then Goldfinger revealed his Fort Knox plan to the Mafia bosses . . . before having them killed. I realize that this little scene has been previously argued to death, but I guess my feelings about it remains. As for Goldfinger's final dealing with Bond . . . handcuff him to a nuclear bomb? Why not simply put a bullet in Bond's chest and be done with the guy?


Like I had said, I loved Gert Frobe's portrayal of Goldfinger, but the character itself left much to be desired.

So why pick on Goldfinger for this when practically every other villain in the series had the same opportunity?



I'm amazed nobody has mentioned Stromberg. This guy barely leaves his chair, much less does anything. He pushes buttons to kill people, eats seafood, orders his henchmen, shows Bond rare fish, barks and gloats to the captured sub crews and that's about it. He doesn't even leave his seat to try and kill Bond.

Cool voice and that's about it.
