He is great, but unfortunately was weakened by the character of Mayday.

I think Bond bit off more than he could chew when he bedded Mayday. :D

Well, hard to say...With an another script, with an another 007 that Moore at this period, with a good henchwoman or man, he could have been one of the best.
Walken is a great actor...and a wonderful dancer !

Oh, the opinions of those over 30 who cannot get their head round the fact that A VIEW TO A KILL was a zenith for many Bond fans under 30 years old now. Though I know not to argue for the cool edged pace and rare contemporary sweep of A VIEW TO A KILL over that modern masterpiece, THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH...(!!).

On a slightly more serious note, some fans really need to broaden their horizons and form their own opinions. Not that you are guilty of that Bondian by any stretch. I just always see the same lazy reaction to A VIEW TO A KILL that more fairer minded Bond and film followers can level at many other 007 entries. At least A VIEW TO A KILL looked like it was shot on location, had a script ready on the first day of shooting and wasn't Bond-by-numbers in the same inexcusable way that GOLDENEYE and DIE ANOTHER DAY were.

I think Max is the highlight of the film.

Ex KGB, insane, and laughs while mowing down his own men. What's not to like? :D

I would have liked to see a little back story on him in the film though.

I'm not knocking him or the movie. I just feel that May Day overpowered Max with her ruthlessness. :D

I do like A View to a Kill but I find it to be one of the week entries.

I find The World is not Enough even weeker by a long chalk.

Cheers,

Ian

Yeah, there are quite a few Bond villains who fall into the trap of being known by their "implied attributes," as the writers on The Agony Booth would say. These are attributes which are ascribed to a character but hardly or never evidenced in their actual actions.

Other villains fall into the trap of having their actual attributes being the ridiculously dominant part of their character. Renard, for example. Nearly every time we see him, we have to be reminded that "nope, he can't feel that, either!" He's hit, shot, cut, or otherwise injured in 90% of his scenes. We. Get. It. :D

Yeah. Thanks for showing us that he can hold rocks and punch boxes without pain. You've got me all excited for the big duckaroo with Bond at the end!!! Oh boy... here it comes... Bond's sneaking up on him... they're about to go head-to-head... how's Bond going to get out of this one? How can he defeat such an enemy?! He's super strong!!! He's immune to pain!!! IT'S BOND'S GREATEST CHALLENGE EVER!!!!!!!!!

Max Zorin is one of the best villains of the franchise. Luckily Christopher Walken is such a gifted actor, because the film itself was mediocre.
