With the onset of adulthood (a long time ago for me) and the advent of technology, specifically the DVD and its "subtitles" option, I am discovering many of the lines uttered by the Bond characters while growing up was, in fact, not what I though they said.

The two examples I know of (off the top of my head) are:

TSWLM
Bond: The lady will have Bacardi on the rocks.
Anya: And for the gentleman, vodka martini, shaken not stirred.
Bond: Touche...

Now, as a kid, I always though Bond said "Two shakes" to the bartender. I guess "touche" is a better line...

FYEO
Bond: (something about the Dove)
Luigi: Oh, definitely, they have an office in Milan, they may know more.

On this instance, I thought Ferrara said "They have an office in me land" and wondered why he took on an Irish accent.

So, any of you have a similar experience/problem? How far off was your quote?

I swear I thought I heard Jinx say the following:

"That's a mouthful."
"I got the thrust of it."
"Yo mama."
"He did you?"
"Leave it in a while longer."

I'm still waiting for someone to tell me I'm mistaken.

Anyone?

Hello?

Anyone?

On a more serious note. (Yes, this is a very serious topic indeed.)

Although it's not really a 'misquote', I never understood what Blofeld says to Bond as he gets dumped, wheelchair and all, into the factory smokestack. It wasn't until I came here that the awful truth was disclosed to me.

There are a couple actually from Casino Royale, but they are obvious.

Sadly, heard correctly Judo Chop!! LOL

Two incidents come to mind for me, the only about a year or so ago I finally figure out the correct lines.. Both are from The Living Daylights..

1. When Saunders is crushed in the sliding glass door and Kara asks Bond what happened, he replies " Bad accident back there..." but I always used to think he said something like "Barracks hidden back there!!"

2. When Saunders threatens to report to M that Bond deliberately missed shooting Kara, Bond says " If he fires me I'll thank him for it!!" I used to always think he says "Advise me I thank him for it!!"

"Mr. Bond I'll buy you American Dentures, Inflated Steel, Please?"

That is the funniest thing I've ever read on here. :D

I'm curious, MHarkin... did you think that was some kind of a reference back to Jaws? Dentures of steel? How did your brain process the image? Please... share.

What if that's what Bond thought he said...?

Maybe 007 would have spared him had he understood the terms of the offer correctly...?

This changes everything I thought I knew about FYEO!!!

I could only understand about 40% of the lines in the CR-trailer. I remember that it was a hell trying to figure out what Bond/Mathis said... and my english isn't that bad.

The first time I saw OHMSS I thought M referred to the search for Blofeld as "Operation:Venom", not "Operation:Bedlam". Operation:Venom sounds pretty cool.

Elliot Carver: "Take evasive action."

I used to think was "Take a piece of action."

I don't know why.

Nick Nack: "I'll get you yet, and I'll enjoy seeing you outlive me."

Actually "...I'll enjoy every sou you leave me."

M: "Jealous husbands after late shifts..."

Actually "Jealous husbands, outraged chefs..."

Bond: "I'll have a preface of prawns..."

Actually "I'll have the Preveza prawns..."

I thought the same AMC regarding M's line to Bond until only last year!

However I thought it was "Jealous husbands after eight shifts..." as a little in-joke to the 8 film assignments Bond has been on from 'DN' to 'LALD' before the events of 'TMWTGG' started.

Stromberg: "Another thing concludes our business."

Actually: "And that, I think, concludes our business."

Thinking it was the former, it seemed strange that their actions indicated that the interview was indeed over.

Also, it wasn't until after about twelve viewings of this film that I finally realised that Naomi was saying "It's the third button" after mentioning Stromberg's aversion to hand-shaking. I thought she was referring to some skin condition (his webbiness?) as opposed to giving directions for the use of the lift.

Nambutu Embassy official: "Listen to me!"

Actual: "Laissez tomber!" ("Drop it!")

Yeah, the line seemed strange 'cos he didn't proceed to say anything.

Utlimately I realised he was speaking French (I didn't study it in school for nothing).

LTK: At the beginning of the truck chase, when Sanchez gives a Stinger misslie to Perez, I thought he said either "For taking out Bond" or "the tanker and Bond".

I did not know that the Spanish word for 'stop' or 'delay' is 'detengese'.

"Detengese Bond." A stinger ought to have done it.

Two that spring to mind here is in the Beirut scene in TMWTGG, when Saida says, "Oh, mais oui, Bill!". I heard it for ages as "Oh, my wee Bill!" and wondered why she went all Scottish all of a sudden....

And then in MR, after the faux pas at Drax's Venice office, Freddie Gray says "Your man should be taken off the assignment" which I heard as "The old man should be taken off the assignment". A line they should have saved for AVTAK, perhaps?
