Anyone likes John Barry's 007 theme to be in the Bond 22 soundtrack?
I'd personally like it!

Nicolas is referring to the simply-titled "007 Theme" composed by John Barry, a distinct and adventurous tune that appears on many of the Bond soundtracks, almost as an alternative to the James Bond theme itself.

For one reason or another, I've always disliked this particular song. It's entirely too upbeat, I think. Personally, I'm not interested in hearing it in any modern Bond film.

Yes, Magro, it's just an instrumental theme heard in From Russia with Love, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, Diamonds are Forever, and Moonraker .

The one performed by Paul McCartney is the one of Live and let die.

Disculpa, pero yo no estoy aqu

Ahah, I was wondering when this would pop up. It was around for DAD, and again for CR. Every time, everybody wants to hear the '007' theme, every time David thinks about it, and it rarely makes an appearance. Arnold himself addressed this in an interview not so far back, commenting on how the piece itself doesn't exactly fit the modern films...tonally. It's sort of a "Bond is guaranteed to win"-type tune, which doesn't necessarily fit as easily now as it did during Connery and Moore's respective eras.

That being said, Arnold could maybe work it into some transition music.

Not to keen on the 007 Theme tbh, I wouldn't want it in any future Bond films, it sounds to light, totally out of character for a hard edge, gritty thriller. Nah! I want some new dark music, we should be looking forward not back *Insert Sarcastic Comment about James Bond reboot here*. :D

Honestly, I've never been a fan of this theme. I agree with MattofSteel - it is too "Bond is guaranteed to win". The use of it in Thunderball - and the way Barry built upon the theme - worked, but elsewhere "007" simply doesn't excite me.

(If it were to feature at all - and I'll bet good money it won't - the main part of the theme could work as a location establishment track, but as an action cue, it just wouldn't fit.)

I'd like to see Arnold create a new version of the 007 theme for Craig's Bond. We've heard the Bond theme updated several times over the years & it would be a nice change to update this as well.

I'm far more fond of David Arnold's "I Will Return" theme, as heard throughout Die Another Day. It's a shame we may never hear the lyrics to this, but it works wonderfully as yet another secondary theme tune for James Bond. It's certainly more appropriate for the modern Bond films, tonally, than Barry's "007 Theme."

Where exactly does this appear, as I have always wondered where it was during DAD but never took the time to look.

You can hear it on the tracks "Hovercraft Chase" at 1:47 and "A Touch of Frost" at 0:35-1:15. Hope that helps!

I wouldnt mind it. If Arnold could put his own dark twist on it. It would be fitting for the Craig Bond to have the 007 theme played since he is a newly minted 00.

I always thought it would have worked beautifully in CASINO ROYALE, as long as Arnold used the darker, more intense version from the street chase in THUNDERBALL. I think the intensity of that piece would have suited the tanker chase very well.

I would love for it to show up in that form in BOND 22.

I definately would love an updated version of the OO7 theme. As long as Arnold keeps the electronics out of it (or to a minimum) than I would be overjoyed as I've always loved this theme.

Good idea. It doesn't have to be part of a chase scene but could still accompany some form of action or journey.

If it works with Arnold's score, then fine. But I really don't want to see it thrown in there simply because it can be.

I love that theme but it will only remind me of another time.
I want them to come up with a new theme that will always make me think of Craig, like '007' makes me think of that other guy.

It also appears on the track Whiteout and is heard over the surf scene at the very begining of the film.

It such a fantastic peice and a shame that it never was produced fully.

Arnold wrote the score for DAD in the same pattern as he wrote TND.

On both films he never worked on the main theme song. He wrote a score that had a certain theme/motif that appered every now and again through out the score. The theme/mofit is actually certain parts of the end title song.

In TND.

White Knight, Backseat Driver and other tracks from the film had elements of 'Surrender' in it. Of course 'Surrender' was the end title song sung by K.D Lang.

In DAD

Surf's up, Hovercraft Chase, Touch of Frost, Wipeout and other tracks (which was never released on CD) had a again a certain theme/motif.

When Die Another Day was first released. I knew Arnold had written a song called 'I Will Return' for the end credits, but for some looney reason the producers went for a remix of Madonna's song. I have always thought that this particular motif/theme that appears through out the DAD score was 'I Will Return.

The World Is Not Enough was slightly different. Arnold this time had worked on the main theme, and there for elements of the main theme was used though out the first part of score. In the second part of score, we here a new mofit/theme that is played through out the score. We first hear this in 'Elektra's theme' and in 'Casino'. This is elements of the Arnold/Don Black song 'Only Myself To Blame' which was sung by Scott Walker, this like the DAD case was intended for the end credits but was ditched.

The scrore for CR, like the film, was a diffent approach, a fresh sound. Has Arnold once said, the CR score was based on the pattern of Barry's OHMSS score. It had a load of new themes a motifs. YKMN which Arnold had wrote appears now and agian in the score, in differnt ways. It was only recently I realised that 'The End of An Aston Martin' was actually the opening bars of the main theme tune. 'African Rundown, Blunt Instrument and Miami International are tracks that have the YKMN theme in it

Hang on to your wigs - it's almost in every single cue composed for the picture. But since nobody seems to know the song, it's simply not noticed. :D

That is not what the quote was actually meant to mean. The OHMSS-connection is a reference to composing a new theme for Bond as opposed to using the James Bond Theme (it's used rather sparingly mind you). And while OHMSS had a load of new themes, CR produced one main theme, one love theme and reused some ideas from the past and created non-thematic soundscape for separate sequences.

I have been listening to the '007 theme' recently and I do love it. I do hope it does return after such a long hiatus. It is almost strange that such a theme would not be used as much as the James Bond theme. It would be fitting since he is now 007, and the film may be called just that.

We nearly got that too, apparently it was going to feature in the Die Another Day car chase in Iceland, with 'ice bells' included.

It was said earlier that 007 makes it sound like Bond will win. So does the James Bond Theme and I don't see anyone dissing that.

Rightly or wrongly, I read somewhere that this cue was an attempt by Barry to replace THE Bond theme thus obliterating any further association of Monty Norman with James Bond musical credit wise. If this is true it obviously didn't work out for him.

As for using "007" in Bond 22, Barry has moved on, and so should the theme as a whole.

I tell you all now without hesitation: To see Craig pulling off an incredible fight or exciting chase sequence accompanied by an updated version of 007 by David Arnold would be the major, I repeat: the major highlight to Bond 22. Nothing would make me, not to mention hundreds, yes, hundreds (if not more) of other Bond fans like me, happier and ecstatic to say the least to hear it again grace the screen in a powerful Bond movie.
It is strong.
It is powerful.
It is wild.
It is what Bond is and Daniel Craig deserves a theme like that.
