Anders and myself met and chatted with John Glen at Pinewood in July and John Glen accepted to grant us a long interview by e-mail both for Sir Roger Moore's Official Website and htt://www.jamesbond007.se (Ander's Frejdh excellent website).

I just posted the interview on roger-moore.com, you can read it HERE and in a couple of hours on From Sweden With Love

Good stuff. Interesting that Glen still considers LTK his best film (and I agree with him) - he also says as much on one of the DVD special features.

I feel even worse for Roger now that I know he was made to dress like a gorilla and a clown against his will.

Ditto. But at least he wasn't forced to put on dominatrix garb.

Glen only had 5 films. Give him another few years and a couple more films and he may have seized that opportunity as well.

It's interesting on how many Bond fans love to put down John Glen. And yet, he has directed three of my favorite Bond films, which is more than any other Bond director has done. At least for me.

As for Roger Moore dressing in a clown's suit . . . what is the problem? The man was trying to infiltrate a circus without getting caught by the West German police and U.S. Air Force guards. He is supposed to be a spy and not be concern with how he looks.

As my Bond taste goes, Glen's Bond career has some good films (none of the absolute best - none of the absolute worst). Those that are good are good not because of Glen's direction, but in spite of. Most of the time I'd like to keep those films as is, but wish a Hamilton or Gilbert had directed instead. For Dalton's two films, Glen was the worst possible choice they could have made.

We've already had this discussion, Sylvia. You wouldn't mind to see Craig dressed as a clown in the next film. I would. Agree to disagree, shall we?

I don't agree with much of the dislike for John Glen on these boards. He did bring us some flat Bond movies without much style, but he also brought us some great ones. Most people will agree that FYEO is one of Roger Moore's best Bond films and TLD is in my top 5 favorite movies.

Top marks on a great interview, Lady Templar! Considering how incestuous the British tv/film industry is, it still surprises me that Glen never worked on The Saint in any capacity.

Yes, we can agree to disagree. And no, I would not mind seeing Craig dressed as a clown. If his character needs to dress as a clown for a particular reason in the story - as Moore had to in OCTOPUSSY - I see no reason to freak out over it.

Hear, hear! For me, the worst Glen film is AVTAK. And quite frankly, I think its better than a good number of Bond films that come to mind.

I feel that 4 out of his 5 bond films were great(-AVTAK) So i really don't get the Glen hate that he gets sometimes but then again i don't really feel he had that big of a impact on how the bond films he directed turned out.Personally as a Octopussy fan i believe that to be his best bond film but great interview overall.

I have always wanted to ask John Glen about the James Bond screen testing he conducted. Glen tested actors on at least three occasions. For example, did Lewis Collins actually screen test for the role? It would be interesting to get his opinions of some of the actors like the late David Warbeck and Michael Billington. And what does he know about the status of the test material itself? Has it been archived or lost? Will we ever see the Pierce Brosnan tests from 1986? Does the test footage from the OHMSS era still exist? Michael Billington wrote and told me that the Broccoli family save everything. I wish someone would talk to Mr. Glen about this interesting subject.

Excellent interview, thanks a lot. I always love to hear from the people behind the scenes of the Bond films, in particular the directors.

Fairy nuff, but I do wonder why he didn't dress as (say) one of those U.S. Air Force guards, given that armageddon is around the corner and this may have been quicker to achieve. Although this may have involved slightly less lippy. Perhaps - it would be unwise to assume anything about the private habits of any member of the armed forces.

I have now thought about Octopussy for more than three seconds and must purge myself.
