The one and only unofficial James Bond novel (by Jim Hatfield) is on the Net as of this moment. Just visit http://GGSA.da.ru and click the banner. No Bull...

Never heard about this until now but I did some reasearch and it sounds intriguing. I've got it saved and I'll print it later.

Here's a 007 Forever article on it:

http://www.007foreve...illing_zone.htm

I especially love the part about it being unsurprising that someone from Arkansas would want to kill themself. I've lived in the hellhole and the statement is all too true.

Can I just say that is absolutely brilliant to finally get this piece on the Internet! I've been after it for years. Can't wait to get home and read it!

'General Grubozaboyschikov's Secret Archive' (http://GGSA.da.ru) is a Russian website. Among other rare Bond stuff (in English) you can find all the MAD Bond spoofs there. And at CBn, you can find several humorous fake-posters made by me, in the fan-art department. Thunderballed, For Her Spanks Only, Die Another GroundHog Day and etc.

I've been wanting to read this for sooo long. Apparantly it's quite good.
I'll just have to read it and form my own opinion.

Well I be darned. For the record, this wasn't my copy that was transcribed. I have no idea how this got online.

But now that it is...Good! I'm curious to hear what fans think of this book. What a treat for Bond fans. We're getting 3 books this year.

Hey, Mr. *. How about doing a banner for this book? I can send you color scans and a pic of Hatfield if you like.

I was thinking the same thing. :) You wouldn't happen to have Hatfield's mugshot from when he was arrested would you?

Just downloaded it. Looks pretty good. It'll be hell reading of a computer screen, though, so I might just use some paper and read it properly.

My opinion on the book.

Zencat,

Frankly, I was a little bit disappointed with the book. The main reason is some passages ripped off from other Bond books. Almost the whole scene of M

No, I didn't notice it. Last time I read LICENCE RENEWED was about 3 years ago. I don't have my own copy of the book, since it's very hard to obtain the Bond novels in Russia, especially Gardner's ones.

About the stolen pieces...
A thought struck me: if the author wasn't squeamish about taking those paragraphs from the Bond novels, then there could be as well other pieces taken from other thrillers, non-Bond ones. The whole book could be just a literal jig-saw. What do you think?

Oh! I've just recalled yet another borrowed piece. You remember how Hatfield describes Lotta smoking a cigarette? The sentence about inhaling the smoke? It's right from Casino Royale!

It could be a very interesting game for a hard-core Bond fan: to find as much borrowed passages as possible:-)

My God, Bondpurist! Hundreds of Bond fans suddenly have access to the Unholy Grail of all Bond books, each fan torridly reading through this new frontier of the James Bond world, and you're going to ruin it by giving away the ending? Well, I put your question within spoiler tags so it would not ruin it for everyone else. But just to ruin it for you, the answer is yes.

Changed my mind. I deleted the end of your question, BP. Can't have someone think it's a small spoiler when it's huge. That was an evil, evil thing to do, Bondpurist.

Oh well. It's a mickey mouse Bond book anyway - half of it's lifted from other books and half of it makes Bond sound like he works for the CIA. I shouldn't think anyone cares that much anyway.

Please don't give away big things without adequate spoiler space dude, even if it's ****, I still want to be surprised....and thanks for the cover, so is that little charter bit another fake thing he put on it to make it real? Guy went to a lot of trouble to make this seem real, I like how he thanks Glidrose....ha!

Well it sounds a bit like the film of YOLT in...certain parts. Anyway, I'm not a plot spoiler - more of a plot eliminator. Well, that time anyway.

The weirdest thing about THE KILLING ZONE is its striking similarity to LTK, which was made four years later. Very strange. Did Eon lift from Hatfield? or was this book written after 1989 and Hatfield made it look like it was "published" in 1985. A copy didn't surface until the mid '90s. There is still much mystery surrounding this book.
