Interesting interview. I like Campbell, but I am glad he isn't doing Bond 22, if his heart was never going to be in it.

Same here. Am intrigued by his remarks though..."More of the same?" Isnt one of the appeals of the next film for Craig that Bond is going to continue to grow as a character? I can understand Campbell being burnt out on Bond and not wanting to do two films in a row, but come on! Sounds like Bond 22 is definately not going to be more of the same.

Nice interview. He's a good chap.

Personally, I'm really glad we got Forster instead of another Campbell outing. Campbell was in top form on CASINO ROYALE, but seeing as how that level of quality seemed the exception in Campbell's career, I wasn't sure he'd give it to us again.

I concur fully. Campbell did a topnotch job with CR just because he was excited it was something new, and it doesn't seem like he'd carry that enthusiasm into another new Bond at all, let alone 22. So if CR turns out to be the last Bond movie Martin Campbell ever does, let's be jazzed he went out on that high of a note.

I hope that this almost guarantees deleted scenes on the eventual special edition DVD. As Campbell speculates, some people are indeed fascinated by them!!

It does sounds like deleted scenes are likely- I hope so. I'd really like to see all the stuff they filmed for the pre-credits fight; Bond tailing him into the pavillion, guns being knocked out of hands etc. The BBC British film film thing the other week had a clip of Bond smashing a urinal over his head! I'd like to see more of that.

That's too bad the interviewer didn't ask him about the "reframing" aka "zoomboxing" of GE on DVD, I would have liked to see M.Campbell reaction to his movie being butchered and losing 20% of the frame.

I'm hoping he does a commentary, myself, although he gave no indication in this interview that he will. In my ideal world, I wouldn't mind a commentary from him, and another one from Dan and possibly other cast members like Eva and/or Mads. CR should have deleted scenes, although whether any of them will get put back into the film for an "EE" remains to be seen. It would be a significant first if they did. If any Bond film deserves a fully loaded DVD release (with a *bit* more than 90 minutes of extras on two discs, please!), Casino Royale does.

Many of the comments here are quite different from the "I hope he takes it" and hopping from 1 foot to the other speculation about Campbell helming Bond 22.

I would love to see deleted scenes myself. With Campbell commentary too.

More Casino Royale the better. A movie as successful as that and for the fact that it's my favorite film of all time is a good enough reason to do a proper bloated with extras DVD.

It was on BBC2 a couple of weeks back; I forget the title of it but it's a series all about British Films- that week it was about thrillers with a section on Bond. I've never seen that urinal clip before (it was behind-the-scenes action, so we didn't see the movie camera's view of it) so it was quite interesting.

Interesting! So not only does Bond throw him into a urinal with such force that it is knocked off the wall, but he then picks up said urinal and smashes it over his head? Now that's just taking the piss!

I'm glad Campbell is still enthusiastic to talk about CR and Bond. In fact, it's nice that all the former Bond directors have always been open to talking about the series and contributing to the DVDs and such.

Although I have both the SE and UE versions of the GE DVD, I have never listened to Campbell's commentary track. Can anybody tell me how it ranks with the others? Will his track for CR be something to look forward to based off it?

You know, if he quits at CR and never does another Bond - he still gave us too excellent Bond movies. Although CR is worlds better than GE, GE is still a good outing, especially for Broz, and is my favorite of Pierce's Bond pics. It's interesting to note that his two Bond movies were both "firsts" - Brosnan's first and Craig's first - so he has introduced us to the last two Bonds. Hey, maybe they should invite him back when Craig leaves to do the first movie for the NEXT BOND. What do you think?

Oh, without a doubt, Turn! He gets along perfectly with Michael G. Wilson and the two together are quite enjoyable to listen to. Easily one of the very best audio commentaries in the series.

I like DVD Extras that enhance the experience of the film, but I am not too keen on "Making Of" sections, as they take the magic away for me. I don't want to know how certain scenes were shot, or that the whole team laughed while filming a classic scene.

I know what you mean. I was so bored by some of these on the SE DAD DVD I don't think I ever finished the rest. The ones on CR weren't bad.

It's funny, I recently went to Universal Studios in L.A. and the MGM Studio in Orlando and when you see how small some of these stages and backlots are, it does kind of take away from the magic.

My hope is that it may be released at the end of the year to tie in with the cinematic release of QUANTUM OF SOLACE. Not sure what the exact plans are though.

Are you serious? The current Casino Royale DVD hasn't even been out for a year. It took 4 years for the second Die Another Day DVD to be released. It may come out in November to coincide with the release of Quantum of Solace. Studios seem to like doing that these days when sequels are in theater.

As for Campbell's other plans...I'm still disappointed at his not helming B22. But--like most of you, I'm sure--I wish him well and was interested to note:

In addition to 36 and Unstoppable (both in pre-production)...Martin's currently in talks to direct a remake of Hitchcock's The Birds.

Now, wouldn't it be something if Dan Craig could play the lead?

Wasn't the lead in The Birds female? But wow! I love the original, could Campbell be the new Hitchcock! I hope he remakes Psycho as well .

Well, the general consensus here is that Dan can do anything--so why not Tippi Hedren's role? Seriously, though, you're right--I was thinking of the Rod Taylor part.

And you and I are probably the only two on this site pulling for a proper remake of
Psycho. For me a proper remake would involve some re-imagining. What were they thinking of with the scene-by-scene regurgigation directed by so and so a short while back? My God! One of the worst things about the original Psycho was the moralistic psycho-babble ending, which Hitch himself must have depised, but was compelled to tack on.

I am one of those that feels that classic movies should not be remade, and that counts The Birds. My biggest fear of all time, the Jerry Bruckheimer remake of North By Northwest

She was a blonde, though. Maybe DC could be the new Hitchcock blond(e)?
