same here.I really didn't mind Cleese as Q that much, but I don't think we'll be seeing him return in Bond 22.

John Cleese to return as Q?

I simply don't want to watch Daniel Craig's bond employ an inflating protective jacket in the rumoured Ski scene.
But how will he survive if there is an avalanche?

I think Caine is too big a name for that to really work as brilliant as it would be, but then i've been wanting to see Christian Bale as a villain in a Bond film since seeing "American Psycho" so...Personally I think Michael Caine would be a great replacement for Q.

Just don't make Q purely comic relief at Bond's expense nowadays and I'll be A-Ok. Oh, and Boothroyd would sound much better, IMHO.

No Q, Give us Major Boothroyd.
Agreed. I think that using Major Boothroyd as the 'Q' character would be the best way to go. It would be a great way to bring more Fleming back into the novels as well as allow for the character to exist without comparisons to its previous depiction (which, if they tried to duplicate, just couldn't be done because it would be impossible to do it better than Desmon Llewlyn did, so I don't see any reason in trying).

I'd actually prefer one more film minus Q, but maybe introduce a Money Penney that Bond is meeting for the first time. The exchange might be interesting.

I definitely hope John Cleese does not return as Q. I like him and I thought his Q fit well with the Brosnan take on 007, but he would clash with Craig's Bond. They need someone more serious with a sarcastic wit about him.
As I've pointed out, Cleese is perfectly capable of dry, sarcastic wit--it's one of his trademarks, and he's played restrained characters before. And as a matter of fact, was there really much wrong with how Cleese played the character in DAD? Put aside the ridiculous gadgets and focus on the barbed interplay between Brosnan and Cleese. I can easily imagine an exchange like "You know, you're cleverer than you look" -- "Still, better than looking cleverer than you are," occurring between Cleese and Craig.

I would like Moneypenny back too, but again, someone younger - like how Lois Maxwell was at the very start, not the slightly older portrayal as played by Samantha Bond.

Lois Maxwell was older in Dr. No than Bond in GE!.

Well evidently Samantha Bond didn't age too well then lol. She certainly seems an older Moneypenny.

I don't think we need the character of Q, as I think the producers should attempt to show Bond as an individual who doesn't really need gadgets, but relies more upon his own mettle. Perhaps just having occasional useful features which aren't overblown but rather realistic.
I agree, however, as I've stated in past threads, Q wouldn't be so bad if he was The Armourer.

1. I was never a particular fan of Bond's Moneypenny or Cleese's Q.
2. I think the new Moneypenny and Q should be young (30s, and contemporaries of Craig's Bond), and should have a certain amount of deftly-handled backstory. For instance, here's how I'd introduce Moneypenny:
PTS OF BOND 22. We open with Bond at Mr White's villa, or in the middle of some other mission. At the end of this PTS, after some cool action and stunts, our hero goes to an embassy function or somewhere where he's told he's going to meet someone from MI6 who'll give him a certain piece of information. "How will I recognise him?" Bond asks. "Don't worry," comes the answer. "Just go there, have fun, act normally, and don't look as though you're looking for someone. When the time comes, your contact will come to you." So Bond turns up at the bar, orders a vodka martini, and begins mingling in the crowd. An attractive young woman catches his eye, and he asks her to dance, partly because he wants to and partly to take his mind off the job and relax for a bit.
BOND (flirting): You dance very well.
WOMAN: So do you. But then I gather you do a lot of things well. I have to confess I've read all about you.
BOND (beginning to twig): My condolences. You've read about me in some detail, then?
WOMAN (fanboy in-joke ahoy!): In nauseating detail. Only as a matter of duty, of course. You see, I'm your boss' new secretary.
BOND: Ah. I imagine, then, that you know my name. (Groan.)
WOMAN: I do, James.
BOND: Well, well. I'm very impressed. M's certainly choosing her people well, Miss----?
WOMAN: Moneypenny. (As she opens her mouth to say her Christian name, which we the viewers must on no account ever hear, we cut to the opening credits sequence. Guaranteed mass cheers from the packed-out opening Friday night audience at the Odeon Leicester Square, I'm telling ya!)
Something like that. I still say Mackenzie Crook must be Q, and perhaps someone like Amita Dhiri (THIS LIFE) for Moneypenny.

As for Q if they do bring him back I hope they don't try to imitate Desmond and try to get a younger fellow who is less ridiculous and has a different attitude toward Bond.

What about the rest of the series then?Loomis' suggestion of a pre-credit sequence for BOND 22 has almost changed my opinion of Moneypenny returning. It may be worth bringing her back just for the sake of an introductory meeting with Bond...
