Wow LadySylvia, what a tour de force your review was.
It was a special film, having waited so long for a new Bond film I thought Brosnans entrance was great and I still enjoy the line "Sorry. Forgot to knock". However, for me it was Sean Bean's performance that made the film, he played an excellent villain with a personal vendetta.
I also agree that Eric Serra

Good review! I agree, as I'm sure many others do, with the majority of what you said. No, GoldenEye is not even close to perfect, but it is still my favorite!

Nice review, LadySylvia.
I agreed with most of what you said. Goldeneye isn't a perfect film but it's a great one for a new Bond actor to start off with. It also stands up very well against the later films Pierce would do.
The soundtrack (one of your least favourite aspects) has actually grown on me over the years, especially during the first two thirds of the film. The reason why it works, in a way, is because there's a new Bond in the role and we don't yet feel as though we know him. When Bond walks past the outdoor theatre at the casino there's a nice sense of mystery in the music's tone, perfectly matching our lack of knowledge as to how Pierce's Bond will attack the bulk of this film. I also like the track that plays when Bond is being driven to his interrogation with Mishkin. It has a creepy edge to it that makes the archives building seem intimidating.
My biggest complaint about the film has always been the editing, which isn't as tight as it should have been. I'll give you one example, when Xenia is sliding down the rope in her final scene. It so obviously isn't her. Now that might sound a silly thing to say, but when I'm watching Roger Moore float around without a parachute in the middle of the sky, at no point do I ever think it isn't him. We should never be able to see stunt-doubles so up close and personal as we do in Goldeneye.

No matter what I think of the rest of Brosnan's movies (not much), I think Goldeneye is one of the classic Bond movies. Terrific story, actors and actresses (especially supporting characters like Robbie Coltrane, Judy Dench and Sean Bean). Some great stunt sequences, and unlike most I even love the score (except for the racing sequence at the start, the score for that was awful).
Im glad Brosnan got at least one classic movie under his belt, and
I just wish he could have left the series as well as he entered it.
