I was watching the extras disc on the UE edition of LTK the other day and saw the various deleted scenes for the first time. Am I the only one who thought a few of them really should have been left in? Especially the one with Bond in the hotel room watching Sanchez on TV. This scene rounded out Sanchez's character quite well (and was a good scene for Robert Davi) and also I think we really needed to see Bond observing Sanchez and at loose ends -- smoking or drinking or somehow dissolute. I also thought the scene where Bond bumps into Sanchez at the bank REALLY should have been left in.

I also thought that several of the deleted scenes helped further emphasize something that was only hinted at in other scenes in the final cut -- that Bond was starting to play a little too much with all that drug money. (Especially the scene where Bond buys the boat, which was nicely acted and showed him just grabbing a wad of the money for his own use.)

I liked the scene where Lupe dropped Bond off on the beach, just because it showed an appealing location, but the problem is that the dialogue was just lame. ("Do you love him?" "No, I hate him.")

I think John Glen pared too many scenes that showed character-driven stuff, in the interest of making the narrative lean. He should have left some of this stuff in, and cut out the Wayne Newton scenes!

I remember seeing the hotel scene in one of the teaser trailers and thinking it was great then and feeling a bit let down when it didn't show up in the final film.

The other scenes I don't know so much about. If I'd have cut anything from the final film it would have been scenes with the awful Talisa Soto, who rivals Tanya Roberts as the worst actress in any Bond film. That character was pivitol in the film and it barely worked.

Talisa Soto is very pretty, and it was nice to see a Latina Bond girl for once. (Was she the first?) But she was playing the character like a street whore or something. I totally did not buy her being an abused woman.

Yes those 2 scenes could be put back in and maybe even the scene of the chinese arriving at the airport.

^Me too. I refuse to re-buy all of the UE DVDs because, after comparing copies of FYEO, they looked the same to me. Besides, I'm just thrilled with my SE DVDs.

Compare your copies of films such as DN or GF and see how they compare though.

I noticed a difference in most all the films from the SEs to the UEs. That being said, though, if they had never come out with upgraded UEs, I'd have still been quite happy with the SEs.

I don't know what's on the SE's, I only have the UE's. I just watched TMWTGG (UE edition) though, and the picture quality BLEW ME AWAY.

OK, having had the opportunity to watch the deleted scenes (thank you!), I have to say that I would have liked to have seen them all in. IMO, this is the kind of connective tissue that's missing from "Licence to Kill" . . . making a lot of the transitions a bit jumpy. I felt that way even after watching the Ultimate Edition DVD (all I'd seen before was the edited VHS version). I enjoy "Licence to Kill" and it is growing on me over time, but I also feel believe that it needed these character-development scenes to make it cohere. I don't know why they were left out; time constraints? IMO, the film would've worked better with them in.

I would of kept the hotel room peice in the finished movie. There is a real Fleming vibe.

I think there was a scene with Sharkey being shown as the one under the Manta Ray cloth with Bond, which should have been kept in as otherwise, why are we shown him hanging in the boat, dead?

If I recall, all the deleted scenes were fairly good. I would of put them all in. Licence To Kill deserves it, and any extra footage would do it even better.

The hotel room scene should have definately been left in. It displayed the the power Sanchez had (having more or less a country at his disposal) and is very Fleming-like.

Definetely, a fan should put those back in a fan edit.

Regarding UE image quality compared to the SE, even when they failed color wise to duplicate the original movie, like in YOLT, all the UE are much better because they have near to none edge enhancement, which ruins all the SEs. Watch YOLT on a big 42" or 50" plasma screen, and you will see bond looking like a ghost, totally surrounded by a white halo. This ruins ALL the original issues...

Haven't got the Ultimate Edtions but after I saw this post I went looking for the deleted scenes on YouTube. The Hotel Room scene should have been in the film. It is an excellent scene where the aspect of Bond using his spy abilities to catch Sanchez really come forward. I like that.

I wish they would've kept in the scene where Bond soliloquized to a skull.

"Alas poor Yorwick, I knew him well, just not Biblically."

I wish they would have left the airport scene in, because it clears a lot of things up. Before, it took me a while to figure out who Heller was and why he was so important.
