Knighthood?
I saw this thread on another site and I thought it was interesting. Given the fact that a great deal of other British actors with less talent and screen + stage work have recieved honours from the Queen isn't about time that Dalton did too? Particuarly since Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen already have honours. Surely if they do then so too does Dalton. Love to hear people's opinion's on this.

Dalton doesn't believe in the honours system. So, in the unlikely event that he was offered a knighthood, I suspect he'd turn it down.

With respect to Dalton, I just don't think he's done enough work to get noticed for such honors. You have to understand, that actors in the UK tend get these honors if they're either (a) super iconic, (:cooltongue: have done huge amounts of charity work, or © if they've been treading the boards 330 days a year for 40 years straight. For another thing, Dalton has been a British expatriate for many years now, working and residing in America. That isn't likely to get him noticed by whoever recommends actors to the Queen.

I can understand what people are saying but I can't comprehend how Patrick Stewart could possibly have an OBE when Tim Dalton hasn't even been offered any honour, at least publicly and if Dalton had of turned down the offer then it is government policy to reveal how has accepted and who hasn't.

Dalton's been in the business for 40 years now and has done a great deal for charity in Britain and worked extensively both on stage and screen. I just think its pretty odd and I would like to see he get some reward for his good work. I think that because Dalton has been living away from Britain shouldn't mean that he can't get an award - just think of Salman Rushdie...

I'd rather not, if you don't mind. :cooltongue:

A few years ago some Dalton fans attempted to get him an honour. They went to his former agent Jimmy Sharkey, to see if he would support the nomination. He told them, in no uncertain terms, that Dalton would be "appalled at the idea." So, that was the end of that.

The great Albert Finney remarked "I don't need a prefix," when he turned down a knighthood. I would imagine Timothy Dalton feels much the same way.

Still, it would be nice if he were to be asked, I suppose.
