Spoiler
What's also interesting is that Hamilton didn't want to just use your run-of-the-mill surfboard for the surf sequence in the film. Apparently, he has his own invention, what he calls the "hydrofoil"!

This hydrofoil is basically an elevated surfboard on water - there is a strap for one boot (a la snowboard) and a little rutter attached to the board that allows you to steer. Laird seems pretty excited about his new gadget, as one could imagine. So excited he wanted THEM to feature in sequence. On the news, he said that he'd even approached the producers about it, and they rejected the idea, saying that the audience would not buy into it. He said the producers feared the audience would think the surf sequence was staged, and not done for real (or to that effect).
It's a cool invention, but I'm glad the producers stayed with the surfboards. There seems to be more of an inherent danger actually BEING on the water, rather than 3 feet up from it. What do you think?
Would you have wanted to see a new, cutting edge gadget like that in Die Another Day? Or do you prefer the tried-and-true surfboard?
