Is it just me or was Bond very gentlemanly in CR? He must've said "Thank you" about 8 times in the movie and always stood up when Vesper left his company.

A good point, but I would consider most of the various portrayals of Bond as very gentlemanly. It's an important part of his character.

You know, I noticed all those thank you's! (But Vesper was doing it too...)

Bond should be polite. It's part of being classy.

 Thank you Bondfiend.

I'm glad you made that independent, uninfluenced observation. There are folks that just insist that he's too thuggish, ungentlemanly, "street," etc., to be Bond. But look, he's practicing some of the best manners we've ever seen from this character! Standing up when a lady leaves the table...yep, sounds like a thug to me. Laz hit it on the head..."He's a nice bastard." :cooltongue:

That's true. I did notice that even though I'm one of the people who said he--Craig-- was a bit thuggish, but Bond is a gentleman always. Sometimes he does things in the most polite manner.

I believe I remember seeing him open a door for Mollaka.

For/With. Is there a difference really?

He also held the door for the housekeeper at the Ocean Club.

"Thank you," he says--and he means it--when Vesper saves his life. The politeness itself was refreshing. The sincerity of his gratitude was amazing.

He is a gentleman, no matter how thuggish his looks or actions may be!

It is classic Bond.

Smash the guy in a fight, and still be gentlemanly.

I feel that Bond's politeness is a reflection of his Royal Navy background. As a Midshipman, way back in the mid-80s, I had etiquette pounded in my head so hard that it is now second nature.

I think it's probably a British thing too - if I forget to say thank you to an ATM I feel terrible all day.

LOL. :cooltongue:

But yes, on the whole, the politeness and "thank you's" were noticeable.

He says thank you as if he has an expectation of getting exactly what he wants though.. some of those thank yous were down right threatening :cooltongue:

There's another scene, that was cut from the film, where Bond tidies up the office after killing Dryden. A "clean kill" as Bond puts it.

Daniel Craig IS James Bond, the gentleman agent from MI6.

Perfect.

I do hope that version of the scene sees light of day on some future version of the DVD.
