In a different thread someone mentioned that Bond was supposed to be around 30 years old when he went on his first assignment as a Double 00 - i.e. Casino Royale. Previous to that was Bond working as a paper pusher at Headquarters? Does anyone have an early biographical sequence for our hero?

I'm not sure who said he was a paper pusher or 30 years old, but according to the Casino Royale Dossier he did Naval work and Black Ops before joining MI6. He is also 38 at the time of CR (they use Craig's birth year).
The only other biographies I'm aware of are his obituary from You Only Live Twice and I guess the Pearson book.

In the books, Fleming characterizes Bond as spending the vast majority of his time in his office at MI-6 reading reports and training. He only goes on about 1 mission per year, the rest of his time is spent reading intel reports.
