Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has discovered the source of a problem in their recent DVD releases that prevented them from being played on some players, including some manufactured by the consumer electronics division of Sony itself. The company said the problem was caused by an update of its copy-protection system, which it continually updates in order to derail potential hackers. Among the DVD movies affected were the new James Bond film Casino Royale, The Pursuit of Happyness and Stranger Than Fiction. Sony said that anyone who had purchased one of the discs and has experienced problems playing it may receive a replacement disk free of charge by phoning 800-860-2878.

Maybe if I send mine back they can remove the god awful Spider-man 3 trailer from it.
I look forward to Spider-Man 3 but that is an awful trailer along with the other trailers. Maybe I'll send mine back to have all the trailers removed.

Who was the editor on Casino Royale who decided that Bond should leave Solange room then drive the Aston Martin and then with a blink of your eye he is in a Taxi going to the museum, did they think we wouldn't notice.

Well it's no so much the trailer as it is it's existence on the DVD. It's like the first thing that comes up when you press play. I just find that appauling. I mean, I've paid good money for a copy of this film to watch in the privacy of my home, and I feel I'm entitled to a "commercial free" experience, unsullied by Sony's continual attempts to force feed their crappy products down consumers throats. Granted, you can skip it, but it's "there", a grubby commercial, on my Casino Royale DVD. And it's not like a flyer I can throw away. I'm stuck with it.
It taints it, albeit ever so slightly.

Wouldn't that be nice.

Notice what?
I have no problems with the transition.

It is one of the titles that are being reporting as having playback issues. Sony is blaming it on manufacturing (some bad disc pressing) & not their stellar copy prevention scheme of the week.Strangely, I cannot get my DVD of Rocky Balboa, which isn't on that list, to play on my DVD player, nor my computer.

I just hit "menu," and they stop and the film menu pops up. There are things one can do to just watch the film...just the biz these days.
That works on some DVDs, but not others...

You know, I wonder if they make you mail the disc back, or you just tell them the UPC code on the back or something.
Could get a free second copy of CR?
Doubtful. I had to return my Back to the Future DVDs a few years back (as they were incorrectly framed) so they could send me the replacements. Just the discs though.

So there you have it.
The funny thing is I live aross the street from the Sony Pictures (Former MGM) Stuidos in Culver City. Guess they couldn't find a runner to bring it to me personally. Oh well I'll be glad to get the new one and have a backup.

...and that I am to DESTROY the old disk when the new one comes via Fedex in one to two weeks.
Probably hoping people don't sell those defective discs to others and then start having those people call them for the free replacements...

I read this only impacted Region 1 DVD's. Hopefully you will get a reply from Sony confirming you are in the clear.Does this apply only to the United States? Because I emailed Sony and they told me to contact Sony Pictures. So I emailed Sony Pictures and never got a reply. Not a happy chappy.

I've already encountered this problem before I made my post - I even started a thread about it. So my patience with Sony is wearing thin!
