The L.A. Times says he was born in 1917, which means he was three years older than what we thought he was. Which would be why he died at 89 instead of 86.

If April 16 was actually his birthday, then he was only 9 days away from turning 90.

RIP, Mr. Nelson. I've always loved your Bond.

Incidentally, I think the one poster was right - this is the second James Bond to die. The first was David Niven.

(For that matter, Peter Sellers and Terence Cooper are also deceased.

It would be really cool if 1954s Casino Royale was displayed on the home page instead of TMWTGG, kind of to honour Nelson. :cooltongue: - Just a thought.

Anyone wanna do me a favor and make a Barry Nelson wallpaper using pic(s) from Casino Royale (1954)?

I haven't seen the original CASINO ROYALE, but this is a sad moment in Bond history if for no other reason than he is the first to go, but inevitably won't be the last...

Hindsight being 20/20, I think Eon should've offered him a cameo in CR 2006.

Rest in peace Mr.Nelson.

That would have been nice, if it wasn't too obvious. I recall a quote from him saying they should have given him a small role.

I've always enjoyed Barry Nelson's work. He was a good actor, and made a strong first James Bond. Sure, he wasn't British, but that wasn't his fault! The original Casino Royale was quite good for a one-hour TV movie from 1954!

RIP

The disturbing thing about this is that we all know that Roger & Sean are getting up there in age, too.

The first man to play Bond dies on the 007th of April in the year 2007, thats some irony there, RIP.

He died just nine days shy of his 90th Birthday so he lived a long life. It seems many people in the James Bond franchise are blessed with long lives, just think about how many of the actors in all the Bond movies whether it be the 007 actors, the villans, M16 people, Bond girls and it amazing how many of them are still alive given the 45 year history and even amoung those that have already passed many of them lived long lives.

Doubly ironic in that he was never referred to as 007.

RIP.

It's really cool to be able to call yourself a former Bond, I think. He had a long life.

I read somewhere that the Ian Flemming literary Bond of the 1950's and early 1960's was born in 1917, the same year as Barry Nelson, so there is some irony in that as well.
