Ok, it's assumed that Gettler was an operative of SMERSH and Bond had his licence number along with a swiss bank account number so why didn't Bond try to find him and question him concerning SMERSH's operations?
Was Bond too much troubled with rage over Vesper's betrayal that he forgot about Gettler or did Fleming just dispose of him entirely? There could have been some potential before LALD for some kind of confrontation.

Maybe one day some one will write a Bond novel about this confrontation, set between CR and LALD. Just as Pearson had Bond face off with Le Chiffre's assassin in the Bond biography.
