So, Jordan, you'll have to tell me how you like the book, but don't tell me too much

You just have to keep your eyes open...ebay, bookfinder, etc. I've sometimes found proofs in used bookstores.Blue Eyes (14 Mar, 2002 08:33 p.m.):
How does one get their hands on a proof edition?

I don't plan on bidding on it, having already plucked down twenty some dollars for it at amazon. If I did have it, I'd have to restrain myself from waiting to June (I don't get the editions) to read the finished product.

I still go by my earlier statement that I'm not going to bid on either one, especially as I'm most likely to get it signed come June anyway and without having to spend a further $10
Is anyone going to bid for it, and if so, which one?

Just curious, do you have proofs from any of the Fleming or Gardner books, zencat?

How does one get their hands on a proof edition? And I'm sorry, but I have to say, if I got invited to a TWINE screening I'd be there in a flash. I'm an impatient little bugger
At about the time when GE was in the final editing stages, I was invited to a Cinema Weekend with UK film journalists. They usually show full films 2-3 months ahead of their release dates over a four day period to allow the journos to get their reviews written ahead of the game. Well, they only had about 20mins worth of GE footage to show at this event.
I drove for two hours with a friend to see just those 20mins (and also for a GE party and various goodies). I guess for the Americans and Australians in these threads, that's about the equivalent of just going across the road for some groceries but to a Brit, that is a long haul.
But it was worth it as they also had Martin Campbell there for an interview.
A very good evening.
So I sympathise and agree, I would go to the advance screening. There are usually enough people in the audience to give you the feeling of a full event without all the popcorn bags crackling in your ear.

Zencat, could I be a bugger and ask for a bigger scan of the back cover please?

I'll try, guys. I had a full size scan but I got an error message telling me the file was too large. Maybe I'll email you a scan, blue eyes.Mister Asterix (24 Mar, 2002 02:58 a.m.):

But seriously, novels are meant to be read for the pleasure of the delivery of a good story in a 'nicely-flowing' style that make the 'facts' easier to digest.
So reading an uncorrected proof is, well--proof of your unhealthy obsession!
IMHO, don't bid one cent. I wouldn't even bid for Fleming's uncorrected proof--unless it was a first draught with some radically different idea that would be fun to read.
Aside from that, I wouldn't bother spoiling what could potentially be a good story, by reading 70 000 misspelled words of an undeveloped plot.

Actually, the proofs aren't filled with misspellings or undeveloped plot. They are sent to magazine reviewers and the like. There are very small differences from proof to book.
Oh I see. I stand corrected.
I do like reading first draught screenplays, though. Does anyone know where I can read them other than TWINE and TN[L] at Universal Exports?

I don't have any Flemings... I have the proof of NO DEALS MR. BOND (because on the proof the title is spelled out NO DEALS MISTER BOND)... I have all the Bensons except for Red Tattoo.RossMan (14 Mar, 2002 11:36 p.m.):

If someone from the forums does get it, please be sure to send us in a review of the book!

I've had my copy of "TMWTRT" for about a week now and I can't say it's ruined my experience because it's a "proof." Heck, the proofs are cheaper than the actual book is (presently anyway).
