I've always found his reviews to be the funniest ever. He gives it 3/5, which coming from him, is a pretty damn good score (most of them are 1s and 2s, 4s and 5s are rare). Anyway he actually starts talking about it at the 5th paragraph. He always critiques a movie even if he likes it so take his comments in jest and enjoy. I know i did.

Not very interesting, but he does make one point which is very good about Bond's poker playing:
"[Bond,] despite suavely saying that in poker "you don't play your cards; you play your opponent," only plays his cards. The one time he doesn't, he loses."

Bond did play the man across from him, at least once when he was trying to figure out Le Chiffre's tell and again when he "lost it all".Not very interesting, but he does make one point which is very good about Bond's poker playing:
"[Bond,] despite suavely saying that in poker "you don't play your cards; you play your opponent," only plays his cards. The one time he doesn't, he loses."
Plus, the two aren't mutually exclusive. He knew that Le Chiffre was a mathematical genius (and to be described that way in poker, it really has to be applicable, especially when millions are on the table) and that he had already caught on to the fact he knew his tell, so he wasn't left with much wiggle room. And the odds of Bond making that straight flush at the end were slim enough, and Bond had already established himself as brash enough, that by going all-in he was playing to Le Chiffre's reading of him.
We also didn't see enough hands to determine if Bond was playing "weak-loose" or not, and we would have even more of the whiners complaining if the game had been a play-by-play (and given we don't even get that in many televised tournaments, that's asking a bit much from an action film with other fish to try). Hell, to make that even worthwhile you'd have to give every audience member a pamphlet on the basics of pot-odds and such (or maybe have Mathis explain it "casually" to Vesper...). Sure, I for one would have loved an extra hour of all that, with Bond showing us he can play weak hands and so on, but gimme a break. Just ain't feasible given the medium.

Never seen so much cursing about something someone was so dispassionate about. Pretty useless really.
