How will Bond 22 alter our perceptions of Casino Royale?

If they get the balance wrong, or blow the next 2 films, then CR will become Camelot.

Hindsight is 20/20. We all look at Casino Royale as a great film (ok, most of us do) and find Craig to be a great 007, but what happens when the next film comes out? Will there ever be a point where we sit up and go: "You know, I like Casino Royale, but it's really the low point in Craig's tenure." I know that's hard to fathom right now, but then who'd think EON would give us the bloated excess of DAD after watching Brosnan's GE?
It's certainly possible. Not only that, but I presume that, for all of us, it's desirable (assuming that we don't want things to go downhill from here on in). If BOND 22 turns out to be a film without padding, without the feeling of being frontloaded with action and trundling to a climax that gets more down-to-earth by the minute (kind of like DAD in reverse), without unnecessary injections of Moore-/Brosnan-style "comedy", and with Craig becoming at least a little more like The Bond We All Know And Love, then it's possible for it to be a better film.
CR is terrific, but it still has an uncertain air in a few scenes, a few lumpy bits, and a certain amount of dead weight. Its flaws are few, but they're there. Having said that, it seems incredibly churlish to pick faults in what is certainly one of the very best Bond films ever, and easily the finest in many, many years, so I'll stop.

The great news is "the only Craig film in town" has a follow up due within two years of it's release. I hope we can keep Bond a biannual affair from now on.

Bond is now at position to be innovative again and teach the kids on the block how it's done, I like Bourne but looking at the new trailer it all looks a little underwhelming after CR and with 22 round the corner it's no doubt Greengrass & Damon's fire will be stolen once again.

For me, it depends on whether Bond 22 can be as good, if not better, than Craig`s debut.
I have my doubts that it will be as good as CR. I`d be very surprised if it could be better than CR, but I`m hoping lightning will strike twice.
For that to happen, the scriptwriters will have to take unused Fleming material, and weave it into a script that produces a film with the same depth of character as was seen in CR.
If Purvis and Wade are left to their own devices, (as in not using anything from the Fleming novels) it`s quite possible we will end up with another TWINE type story.
That`s fine if you like that sort of thing, (I didn`t, personally) but CR showed us just how much we have missed major elements of the Fleming Bond novels, being used in the films, and through that use raised the bar considerably with CR. For Purvis and Wade, coming up with ideas for Bond 22 that don`t relate to Fleming, may be a giant step backward, for both the fans and the casual filmgoer.
Best

And really, if Craig's next does both of those things, I'll be happy and I'll still hold CR in high regard. I love CR and feel that it's one of the very best Bond films, but it could be tighter (I personally would've excised the entire airport chase sequence).

It will all depend on how the next film (and films) go. I have a feeling CR will probably stay my favorite Craig Bond since it was actually based on a Fleming source novel but I would love to say it's my least favorite Craig Bond film at a future date. However, I don't believe that will happen(sadly).

Mix it with those short stories, put the Leiter maiming in, but totally remade in a different way... you've got a hit.

Bond 22 needs to be Live and let Die to be on par with CR

I don't see how LIVE AND LET DIE needs to be BOND 22. Are you saying this because LALD was the second Bond novel, after CASINO ROYALE? And the last thing I want to see is a remake of another EON Productions Bond movie.
