I can only go by actor (best to worst):

1) Roger Moore

2) Daniel Craig

3) George Lazenby

4) Timothy Dalton

5) Pierce Brosnan

6) Bob Simmons

7) Sean Connery

I thought the best was DC. I liked how they used the black & white to give it sort of a film noir element and I liked how they played it into the opening...they actually made it a part of the scene and I thought that was cool.

DC looked very serious doing it and so did PB

Worst was Roger Moore. It just didn't have the right vibe to it at all. "I'm Roger Moore and I'm James Bond and I'm rich and cool and now I gotta bend down and shoot ya! BAM!" It just looked sort of cheesy...like most of RM's movies (except TSWLM and FYEO)

Moore's first one and the Bob Simmons one. They're all much of a muchness really.

Casino Royale: I loved how it was black and white, and thought Craig did it really well, but I hated the actual barrel. Horrible and over-complicated. Surely the beauty of the idea is it's simplisity. Stop trying so hard.

The 3D blood didn't help.

I can't pick out a specific gunbarrel from a specific film, as there are a few that do stand out with the right actor and music. In actor order:

1) DANIEL CRAIG - Totally Bond-like, oozing cool and deadly accuracy. Nothing bad about it, with a great lead into the credits.

2) TIMOTHY DALTON - Very suave, casual and fluid with rousing 007 music on both of his films that really set the mood of the films.

3) ROGER MOORE - Had some good 007 music to go with him and always had a good, powerful stance in the latter films.

4) PIERCE BROSNAN - A little too planned and un-natural for walking across, but TND nails the music right. Let down by DAD.

5) SEAN CONNERY - Well, it was the first time for testing Bond openings. I guess it was just too...static.

6) GEORGE LAZENBY - Just wrong. Bad choice of music and awful treadmill effect. Plus, he was too thin. Twig, James Twig.

I loved Brosnan's gunbarrels, especially DAD because it was different and the music rocked, I lovewd craig's for the same reason of being different.

Roger's gunbarrels to me were consistently the best because he always had the best music and the best overall look, stance, etc.

I was never really overly impressed by the others' gunbarrels except for the connery ones (or ones that were supposed to be connery) only when he wore the hat

EDIT: this is my 666th post muahahahahahaha

I thought the best walk was Dalton's. Hopefully Craig's will be just as good, when we see him do it properly.

The top 7, with best film.

Dalton: The Living Daylights. The Music and Dalton's execution are spot on
Craig: The Trailer Version. which is a perfect execution of the gunbarrel, but without the walk
Lazenby: I actually like this drop to the floor, quite theatrical. The thing I don't like is the hat.
Brosnan: Tomorrow Never Dies. But with that lazy turn and point, Brosnan's only fourth because he had the best gunbarrel effects
Connery: Thunderball. A bit tongue in cheek for my liking. And stop putting it in Black and White
Moore 1: Live and Let Die. He does look like Bond, a two handed hold just doesn't work for me
Moore 2: A View To A Kill. Is it just me, or aren't these exactly the same?

The Worst is easily Bob Simmons, He's too rigid. And the beeps at the start of Dr No really don't work.
I just wish I was able to see the mythical David Niven's Champagne version.

I like DC's version, though I'll be in a better place to judge if I see him *walk* across and fire. (BTW, the many-grooved barrel and "3D" blood were part of the title sequence...it's a one-time thing, folks!)

I also like Pierce's GE gunbarrel. Yes, the music in TND was better, but there was a different gunshot sound in every one of his, and GE's caught me off-guard the best.

And I like Rog's original gunbarrel better than the tux. I kind of wish we never went to the tux. Another prop to CR.

My top three are:

1) Diamonds are Forever - the coolest guitar line of Vic's and the tambourine is very percussive. Great gunbarrel.

2) For Your Eyes Only - Rog's movement is so fluid; I like Conti's music here also (more cowbell!).

3) Goldeneye - Best bit of this woeful film, for me. I actually like Serra's gunbarrel music.

Daniel Craig looks like he's in a real rush, but I do like his gunbarrels, too.

As an aside, I've been trying to find out a bit more about Bob Simmons. Was he killed in a stunt-related incident? I know he died in '88 but wikipedia doesn't state how; please excuse my morbid curiosity.

BEST: toss-up between GF, OHMSS, DAF, FYEO, TLD, LTK and GE (all because of the music, the design and the actor's pose).
WORST: either OP (ok, but a little boring), DAD (all goes well except CGI bullet) or QOS (also nothing too irritating, but it was too quick and I'm a fan of gunbarrels at the beginning).

OHMSS by far, thanks to Barry--for the surging bassline and spidery menacing synthesizer--and Lazenby's athleticism--the quick stride followed by the effortless and supremely dramatic knee drop. The most exciting of all the gunbarrels.

My faves are Goldfinger, OHMSS, DAF, LALD, TSWLM, and TLD.
My least fave is: TWINE- mainly due to the rendition of the Bond theme. Arnold sounds bored here, and it doesn't really start the film off with a bang. Also, I would love to see Pierce's alternate gunbarrel walk for GoldenEye. I don't think the version used does him or Bond justice. Very stiff. DAD, would have been my fave PB GB had it not been for that annoying bullet.
As for Craig, it was a bit fast in QoS. Be nice to see him re-do the walk for B23. I like to see the blood ooze, not plop down.

dare I say Quantum?

my simple 2 part justification is as follows, firstly, it shares the honour of being the only truely unique gunbarrel with it's big brother, Casino Royale.

secondly, CR's gunbarrel always resonated with me as more of an in-reference, verging on a bad pun (there will doubtlessly be those who disagree and I'm no more right or wrong than the next man, CR's a brilliant film but that's just how I felt about the gunbarrel)

the gunbarrel at the end of QoS seemed to have more of a dramatic purpose, as though to acknowledge Bond's arrival, the culmination of his baptism by fire. thus, it gets my vote.

Best: The Man with the Golden Gun. I really like Barry's rendition for his first Moore film and the way the barrel bounces back and forth in time to it.

Worst: Quantum of Solace. I have no problem with the idea of placing it at the end of the film but it felt too rushed for me.

I don't dislike any of them - the gunbarrel opening is one of the best parts of any Bond film, and I particularly liked the way they fitted it in to the film noir opening of Casino Royale.

Since no one else has mentioned it so far, I'll also put in a word for the one from YOLT, if only because it leads in to one of my favourite Bond movie openers, as SPECTRE's intruder missile claims its first victims. Its one of those scenes that sticks in the mind, even though Bond isn't in it.

Favorites: GE, TWINE, LALD, TSWLM, OHMSS, DN, DAF, LTK, CR, FYEO. (coz they were innovative, I like the suspense on the music in LTK, GE, CR, and DN)
Worst: QoS (at the end, bad barrel design), OP, AVTAK (too repetitive the music), TLD, DAD (the bullet, but the music was great).

Best ones (in no particular order)

On Her Majesty's Secret Service (Unique - I don't think we'll ever get something like it again)

Diamonds are forever (mostly because of the music - this is the coolest rendition of the Bond theme played by guitar in my opinion. Sadly I feel the film went downhill from here.)

The Man With The Golden Gun (Moore's earlier pose has much more urgency about it than his TSWLM onwards lumbering pose. Plus first time we hear a full orchestral version of the theme, although LALD is also a nice little gunbarrel with a steely edge to it.)

The Living Daylights (Classic and neat all-round. LTK pretty neat too - with it's differing musical tone)

Goldeneye (Bizarrely Serra's ambient clunks work well here - mostly because of the timpani drums - original touch. It's slick indeed)

Casino Royale (Just *love* Craig's stance in this, would prefer it with traditional theme/blood and dots however).

Worst:

Quantum Of Solace (Urgh! Too quick, too zoomed in, ugly bland gunbarrel. Just didn't work and far too rushed much like the rest of the film. Such a shame after the great work Craig did in CR - a huge disappointment!)

Die Another Day (CGI Bullet, Drum overload - 'nuff said! Still set the tone for the film)

Twine/TND (Not a fan of the "Arnold" style used in these I'm afraid)

TSWLM-AVTAK (Roger just looks to be taking it all far too casually, lame!)

Comment:
Just put the bloody traditional non-gimmicky gunbarrel back in it's right place for Bond 23 please EON.

I loved how in the QoS gunbarrel Bond turns and continues walking after shooting. So much better than the traditional freeze frame. I hope they continue that in future gunbarrels.

Best:

1. The Man with the Golden Gun (just how the gunbarrel should be)
2. On Her Majesty's Secret Service (Not what we usually would expect, but the music just stands out)
3. Live and Let Die (Pretty much for the same reasons as TMWTGG, I only found the track from TMWTGG and bit more cooler)
4. Goldeneye (Not the usual Bond track, but it worked well for me)
5. You Only Live Twice (Cool music, cool walk)

Worst:

1. Die Another Day (The CGI bullet just doesn't work for me)
2. Quantum of Solace (To place it at the end of the movie has to be one of the worst things in the Bond series, if not the worst. The gunbarrel itself was just too quick and doesn't really have that cool feeling like in some earlier movies)
3. Licence to Kill (The music is not that bad, but it didn't really fit in my opinion)
4. Tomorrow Never Dies (Not the biggest fan of the music in it)
5. Octopussy (I've always preffered the way Moore walked in his first gunbarrel. The music here is not bad at all, but just not as good as some others)

My best, OHMSS. The music is great and the walking and shooting is by far the best. Second the one from GE. Possibly the best piece of music Serra composed in the film.

1. Licence To Kill: The best gunbarrel music in the entire series - Dalton's walk and quick shot is the peak of cool.

2. For Your Eyes Only: Love the cowbell.

3. On Her Majesty's Secret Service: Down on one knee = marriage proposal?

4. The Living Daylights: A classic feeling gunbarrel sequence with Barry's slick melody and Dalton's prowl.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdukBdTSpvU

5. Thunderball: It's better when it's actually Connery as Bond in the gunbarrel.

I could only pick 4, the rest never really stood out to me. They weren't bad, just normal. Also since this is my first post on the forums, I'd like to say hi.

1. On Her Majesty's Secret Service : The music in this one is great(I really like the synthesizer), and I always thought Lazenby dropping down on one knee was unique and really cool.

2. License to Kill : Dalton's walk is good, but the music is what makes this one. It foretells how the film will be dark and gritty.

3. You Only Live Twice : Even though i already thought Connery's gunbarrel was good, i liked the music in this one, especially the opening chords.

4. Diamonds Are Forever : The music in this one is very cool, but for some reason it reminds me of a circus.

You and I have something in common again, my friend! Yes, I've always tought: "Hey, Dan looks like he's got a pee. He might have told the producers: 'Let's done this gunbarrel thing quickly and let me go to the bathroom!' "

And yes, I love the GoldenEye barrel! The cuartel-like mettalic sound works great! I admit being a Serra defender. Not everything he's done was OK, and he's very far away from Barry and Arnold, but I liked many of his music!
