Poker is much more common around here, and I've known some versions since I was a kid. Hold 'em style poker has been very popular here for several years now, and I have played it occasionally. Taught my wife the basics of it prior to CR so that she'd be able to better follow the game in the film.

But now I am like many who are obsessed with the game. Nothing cures late-night boredom like watching poker!

Certainly I started playing Poker after watching CR several times. I think everybody of us wants to enjoy the spirit and culture of that kind of gambling.
I was facing two probs: a) didn't know how to and

I don't want to spend any real money on any Poker website. So I found a definitivly FREE and OPEN-SOURCE fully CUSTOMIZABLE Poker game for PC. Also playable WITHOUT Installation (but no flash). It's so great. There is an log about every step of the game for training issues. So it's fun and training in one thing.
It's Texas Hold Em of course and after a few rounds you know how James could fix L

I've held my own at Baccarat for many years but never too high stakes. In Vegas, I like high end slots, roulette and blackjack. I'll occasionally jump in on craps, but only if I'm not handling the dice and the action is hot.

2 days later....I've been completely mis-directed. Goodbye Spider Solitaire....Thanks levitator. I'll get cracking on your instructions. I won't tell you how many hours I played this last night after downloading the game, ha-ha. Loads-of-fun, indeed.
Hello Texas Hold 'Em.
My wife thanks you levitator.

interestingly, my personal opinion is that the game itself was glossed over in the movie, sure - it had a LOT of screentime, but to avoid making the film a Poker tutorial they rightfully put very little emphasis on the rules or formalities of the game, as a experienced (if not particularly high standard!) player, i found myself quite unsure as to what was going on as a spectator, instead the audience were guided through the scenes with frequent and in honesty, annoying, commentary from Mathis.
"Bond will have to go all in to call his bluff"
there's nothing wrong with this approach, it stopped people unfamiliar with the game (ie, the majority of the audience) being left uncertain or unable to comprehend the goings on. I just thought it was interesting that the highs and lows of the scenes were depicted more through facial expressions, background music and camera work than it was to a particular explanation of the cards in players hands.
amazing film though!

I tried to buy a set from cartamundi but in the US they want to sell to retailers. I've been looking for CR cards and poker chips all over.
I am thinking of starting a casual poker group and maybe call it Casino Royale. It will all be just for fun, no money betted and I won't make any of course. We won't use any logos either.
Thanks for the links to the online games. I will definately check those out.
Also welcome Bond 1992!
