It sounds like it's another role he was Bjorn to play. :cooltongue:

As a spotty teenager in the 70's I had two major obsessions - James Bond and Abba. Half my time was spent fantasizing about being Bond, and the other half was spent imagining that I could get my hands on Agnetha's bottom. All these years later and nothing has changed much - here I am on Bond fan sites, and I have 34 Abba tracks on my mp3 player. (No, I don't feel guilty, embarrassed, or the slightest bit gay!) However, the idea of Brosnan belting out Abba tracks does feel a little odd. There's plenty of potential here for coming up with something that's memorably awful. I still have nightmares about Dalton's role in Sextette.

Incidentally, surely the one song title on the Mamma Mia soundtrack that sums up Brosnan losing the Bond role is Slipping Through My Fingers. Perhaps you all missed this one as it was never released by Abba as a single.

Haha. While we're on that subject, have any of the other Bonds done musicals?

Fraid my knowledge of ABBA only goes so far as the singles.
Were they an albums band? Should I get some "reccuds" (sic)?

I love how they got paid in oil and combine harvesters instead of hard currency in the former Eastern block countries. They had very good business managers too.

I read somewhere (will try to find source) that David Arnold pondered trying to get them to reform to perform on his Shaken Not Stirred Bond tribute reccud.

Let's be optimistic and think that Brosnan + Streep + ABBA = HIT (admittedly, as spynovelfan observed, not an equation known to humankind hitherforeto).

Haha. While we're on that subject, have any of the other Bonds done musicals?

Does Darby O'Gill count? If so, then Sean Connery
Roger Moore was going to do the Lloyd Webber musical, Aspects of Love on the London stage before he pulled out (although he did sing on his wife, singer Dorothy Squires B-side).
There was a thread on all this some time back.

Am I wrong or didn't Timothy Dalton sing in that creepy flick where he was with Mae West?

Creepy flick? It was a classic! :cooltongue:

Dalton could hold a note quite well, surprisingly enough!

When, oh when will they make a film version of "Chess".

Hopefully never.

Thanks Qwerty and RD

When, oh when will they make a film version of "Chess".

There were a lot of draughts in the theatre when I saw that.

Oooooh! That's worse than Phu Yuk...

...but good though! :D :cooltongue:  :)

One Night In Bangkok is a fantastic song.

It was indeed. Sadly, they tried to build a three-hour show out of little more.

Wow, this should be the best thing since Gerard Butler as the Phantom... :D

Personally, I think Butler did a fine job as the Phantom and the movie itself was woefully underrated. Butler was certainly better than the creaky Michael Crawford would have been in the role. Putting Crawford in that movie would have been like putting Connery as the star of Casino Royale. The original, to be sure, but way past an age to be credible.

As long as Brosnan finishes all his other projects, Especially November Man and maybe Spy Vs Stu and in Mama Mia he kills Streep's character before she gets out a note.
I don't really have a problem with it.

Can Streep sing? Just a question...has she sung in anything else before? And actually...can Brosnan? I've not see Evelyn where apparently he sings a few things.

As long as his singing is better than his Thomas Crown Affair "Scottish" accent then it sounds like fun.

Any ABBA based film is gonna be a hit anyways. Tho they need another big star to round it off. Julianne Moore'd be lovely in it IMO!

Can she sing either?

Sing? Either one of them? God, no. They're actors, you see. That's the trick of it. They'll be acting as if they can sing. Peeling back the layers, that sort of thing.
They could have had the decency to bring in The Village People.

Didn't Streep sing in "A Prairie Home Companion?" I didn't see the film, but I know she was playing a singer in a folk duo with Lily Tomlin.

Most actors have had voice lessons, which probably included 'some' singing. Conversely, rock and rap stars who hope to hobnob with Hollywood babes are quick to point out that they're 'acting' on stage. And thus fit to share in the spoils. But real crossovers, imo, are few and far between. When I go to a musical, I want to hear trained, powerful voices not the warblings of shower sopranos. And I want actors in a film, seasoned pros, not wannabes. Sing and dance and act--and pull in the crowds? A few. I don't see Streep or Brozza in that elite number.

Well this is very interesting, and "mad props" to Pierce for taking on something different, I thought he'd end up doing an endless parade of Bond-lite roles

indeed, go for it Pierce.

Well Brosnan has a good singing voice.. example that Irish tune he sings in the pub in the film Evelyn was not half bad.. and he did a pretty good job with "Row Row Row Your Boat" in Dante's Peak when they are rowing across the lake of acid!! LOL
