quite nice, but to me Bigalow shows far too much resemblence with DAD Gustav Graves. I sort of miss the Flemingesque touch to this guy...

There's no point in remaking Moonraker, and dubbing it 'faithful' only to then do a story about Orbital Space Stations and the destruction of the world- seemingly familiar by the way. It has shades of every 'faithful' version of Dracula- Stoker Fans will know what I mean.
Moonraker is one of my favourite Flemings, but I think to do it now, it would have to be in a period setting. Whereas Casino Royale was easily updated, Moonraker is so of it's time that I feel it would be extremely difficult to pull it off. All the McGuffins; Bridge, Missilie Rockets, Nazism are outdated. Actually, Anti-missile rockets aren't outdated but given protests over renewing Trident, the British public's reaction to a figure like Drax would be one of fear and loathing. The M in question is gone, Drax has been established (with a posher accent) as Gustav Graves.
A faithful adaptation of The Spy Who Loved Me would in my view be a waste of a Bond Movie, great to attempt if Bond was a TV series, but only getting one film every two years is different, and to have so little of Bond in a Bond film would damage the series.
The Man With the Golden Gun would get a bit boring as a cat and mouse game over the world, unless there were some extra elements incorporated into it, it would become repetitive very quickly. The book is too limited, but I suppose elements could be interweaved as in Casino Royale.

Remaking films the other films is not neccesary, seeing as they all reflected their novels in some way. If I was going back in time I would make changes (especially to The Spy Who Loved Me, which originally included a terrorist taking over SPECTRE) but it's a waste to throw away a new story and just do a remake of a 70s film to correct a few errors.

However, the truth is despite these arguments I would love to see a proper Diamond Smuggling film, with elements from DAF and TDS.

How about Dr No? There's some great stuff, such as the octopus, which wasn't used in the film. And Jlaidlaw's idea has given me the idea of what a combination of two books might be like. How about a remake of Dr No but with elements of the book of Live And Let Die thrown in too?

I could go for a remake of TMWTGG, although it would be a toss-up as far as who I'd want to see play Scaramanga: Antonio Banderas, Christopher Lambert, or Gabriel Byrne. They're all fairly good actors, and it would be a treat to see any of them doing a Bond baddie.

Definitely OHMSS or one of its pseudo-sequels.

Is there anyone who thinks that ideally (I doubt it would happen)Bond movies based on the Fleming books should be shot as period pieces i.e. taking place in the 1950's and 1960's in which they were originally set rather than transplanting them into the 21st Century. Until I saw Casino Royale I really believed this was what should be done, after all Sherlock Holmes in modern day would be stupid and the books are now in some cases over 50 years old. But, after seeing Casino Royale, I'm not so sure. I'd be interested in any thoughts as to what time period other fans think the re-makes should ideally be set in.

Now that CASINO ROYALE has been properly done, I don't see the need for any explicit remakes. That being said, I think eventually EON will get around to showing us YOLT's Garden of Death, TMWTGG's assassination attempt, DAF's Spang Brothers, and some of MOONRAKER's plot elements. Afterall, unused parts of LALD found their way into FOR YOUR EYES ONLY and LICENCE TO KILL. Even some bits from John Gardner and Kingsley Amis found their way into AVTAK, TWINE, and DAD.

And isn't TSWLM sort of a YOLT remake anyway? And Moonraker a bit of a TSWLM remake?

No one's mentioned a Timothy Dalton film yet. (Please don't, either!)

This is a good point, and how I thought CR might be done initially. But Bond films sort of become their own period pieces after time--look at FROM RUSSIA, WITH LOVE, for instance.
