FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH!!!! What an awesome movie at the time; I went to see it at least 5 times in the theatre.

And yes, as a kid, I wore a pair of checkered sneakers, ripped jeans, muscle shirts(minus the muscle) and rode a skateboard everywhere. :cooltongue:

Out of those only Star Trek II appeals to me.

Despite the black eye that is Star Trek V, I think 1989 is the best movie year of the 1980's.

It was a pretty good year, but I don't know if it was the best. I remember seeing a bunch of those films when they came out. Road Warrior was unlike anything I'd ever seen. My friends and I went to the drive-in one night and didn't really know what to expect.

I saw Blade Runner and was disappointed at the time, thinking I was going to see a Star Wars-like fantasy film instead of a gritty, sci-fi film noir. Star Trek II was what the first film was supposed to be -- a fun film with characters we liked instead of what they came up with.

A couple of my other all-time favorite films from '82 are Diner and Night Shift. An Officer and a Gentleman is another decent movie from that year.

STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN is my favorite from the list of movies
provided from '82.
However, as for the best year for movies, 1939 is hard to beat.

1939

Young Mr Lincoln
Stagecoach
Drums Along The Mohawk
Wizard of Oz
Gone With The Wind
Gunga Din
Mr Smith Goes To Washington
Jesse James
Dodge City
Wuthering Heights
Dark Victory
Only Angels Have Wings
Goodbye Mr Chips
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
The Hound of the Baskervilles
Of Mice and Men
Destry Rides Again
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Love Affair
The Roaring Twenties
Beau Geste
The Women
Juarez
The Cat and the Canary
Son of Frankenstein
Union Pacific
Q Planes
Another Thin Man
The Story of Alexander Graham Bell

and of course

The Saint Strikes Back (Probably the closest thing to James Bond on this list).

The main differences i have found by comparing lists from '82 and '39
are most from '82 are 'contemporary/sci-fi' whilst those from '39 are mainly 'period' films.

Also note-worthy are the amount of 'franchise' films from '39 - Sherlock Holmes, Tarzan, The Saint, The Thin Man, Universal's classic monster series, Bulldog Drummond- just to name a few.

I agree that both Conan and Blade Runner have fantastic Scores. It's probably my favourite thing about the later (I own it), and the only thing I really liked about the former. However I feel the score for "Robocop" is the late Poledouris's best work (that I've heard anyway).

I'll agree that Star Trek II was probably my favorite movie from 1982, though E.T. was indeed huge, and you gotta love the cheese (albeit eerie cheese) that was Poltergeist. Gandhi got Best Picture, but I've never seen it. It was a good year to be born!

I'm not sure that any one year is better than others, but from 1982, ET was certainly my favourite at the time, and also still is the best one from that year.

It's an impressive list:

E.T.
Conan The Barbarian
The Thing
Rocky III
The Road Warrior
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn
Bladerunner
Poltergiest
Tron
First blood
Tootsie
The Wall(Pink Floyd)
48hrs

to name of a few...It does seem like 'They don't make em like they used to' doesn't it? I usually see 2 or 3 truly great films in any given year if I'm lucky but in 1982 we were spoiled rotten with quality.I was also 12 that year and I've felt letdown by Hollywood ever since those early 80s summers... Anyway, what is your favorite from this year?

Can't say that too many of those appeal to me, actually. E.T. is a bit of a given, but there isn't much else besides that.
