I don't know why I haven't brought this director up before. He would be brillant! Zach Synder directed the remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD and his new movie is 300. I just read an article in Spr(i)pt magazine that described his making 300 and the tightrope walk it took to make the film he wanted against the studio's and producer's wishes. For those who don't know, 300 is based on the Frank Miller graphic novel about the 300 Spartans who fought to the death against 250,000 Persians intent on invading Greece. The Spartans died but gave the Greek army time to regroup, and in many cases come together.

Synder is not only an artist but has demonstrated that he can nav murky political waters while staying true to his artistic vision.

I think he's worth a shot.

Zack Snyder isn't that great. DAWN OF THE DEAD gets a big "meh," and 300 doesn't look like it's displaying talent (I have the graphic novel, which left me unimpressed, and the movie seems to have dumbed up Miller's already-dumb novel).

Besides, Snyder is tied up for the next few years with WATCHMEN, so he's not even an option.

As a fan of the original i expected Dawn of the Dead to be just another pants hollywood remake. Boy was i wrong, IMO it was a corker. Despite staying clear of the cultural commentary that makes the original such a classic, it delivered an adrenalin filled and incredibly, refreshingly, dark movie (the openning titles were a chillingly apocalyptic rendering of Johnny Cash's 'The man comes around', and worth the ticket price alone.

The trailer for 300 looks equally promising and with Watchman on the way he's one the most exciting directors to watch out for at the moment.

I'd really love to see what he'd do with Bond, but only in a parrallel universe. I'm sure he'd be too stifled by Eon, and the result would be amazing, but probably not a Bond movie.

Call me crazy, but I'd prefer someone whose resume consists of something other than a zombie movie remake and a comic book movie.

Yeah I agree, he doesn't show enough potential to be a Bond director prospect. Don't get me wrong, 300 was great, but I don't think he could do a Bond film quite as good as Casino Royale.
