Now we have some different accounts of Bond's childhood:

He was born:

near Essen, Germany - Authorised Biography
in Switzerland - Young Bond

Bond is said to have left Eton after "two halves" after "alleged" troubles with one of his maids (Bond's Obit as stated by M), but in the Young Bond novels her will stay at Eton slightly longer before the alleged incident takes place.

It could be said the M had to change some events due to official secrets etc.

Now, which version would you consider to be "right"?

Higson has said that that issue will be addressed, so you have nothing to worry about.

I have thought about that. Maybe Higson has Bond and the Danger Society erase some records or something? Or M changing the details too perhaps. Who knows, Book 5 is the one I look forward to most.

At this point Fleming. I usually treat other authors as their own alternate Bond universe that are based on Fleming. I don't have a problem with lumping Amis and Higson in with Fleming though, but Pearson I'll reject outright due to numerous errors and contradictions.

Agreed. I like the young Bond books but it's starting to leave a "Phantom Menace" taste in my mouth when they have to go back and re write canon (Fleming).

Pearson holds much more weight with me - he knew Fleming, wrote a biography about him, and did exhaustive research about his life, and had access to unpublished Bond material.
