Is this a good time to mention that this is a Bond film we're referring to here. :cooltongue:

I love The Spy Who Loved Me, but it's the first Rog Bond where we're treated to some odd moments.

I've always taken this scene as a 'on set' idea, and a lead up to Sandor's "what a helpful chap" death.

I've always wondered why Bond is so cool when Jaws is ripping the truck apart. Surely he's out to both of them and retrieve the microfilm. However, all Bond can do is to joke about her driving. Okay. It's all done for comedy effect, and is again very 'on set'.

You're surely not suggesting it's all escapist entertainment, are you? If so, you do realise you'll be shattering so many illusions on here?

So "family friendly" Roger coldbloodedly kills an innocent woman!

That's a bit of a stretch, even if she wasn't in on it (which I believe she was)...

You guys thought that Moore was a "family friendly" Bond? Hmmm . . . interesting.

Personally, I have always found it odd that many tend to view Roger Moore's performances as a non-threatening Bond. While watching my CR "Special Features", I recall the "Bond Girls Are Forever" segment in which Jane Seymour was describing her character's relationship with Moore's Bond. From what she and Maud Adams had said, I got the distinct impression that in his own way, Moore's Bond was just as ruthless as the other Bonds. Only his ruthlessness did not involve grittiness or overt menace. From Seymour's description of Moore's Bond and my own memories, I suspect that Moore's ruthlessness was a lot more subtle, but equally cold-blooded. Unlike Craig, Connery, Lazenby, Dalton and Brosnan, Moore protrayed Bond as manipulative and cold-blooded cad, who would use anyone to achieve his goal . . . while smiling in their faces or whispering soft words. And thinking about this made me realize that Moore's portrayal of Bond was more than just tongue-in-cheek humor. He had portrayed a Bond very unique from the others. Perhaps the other Bonds have used or manipulated others (think of Bond's use of Solange in CR), but they have never done it with such style and cold-bloodedness as Moore did.

To be honest, i think the woman was distracting Bond while Sandor shot him. Maybe she screamed because Roger changed her mind? ;)

I just watched this last night, and upon closer inspection, he seemed to be BEGINNING to swing her round when the shot went off. Perhaps this is just a problem in synching, but she was definitely not completely between Bond and the bullet when the shot rang out. Maybe it's b/c I was watching the '97 SE. Take it with a grain of salt.

Surely she's helping Sandor kill Bond, has a taste of Rog-love and realises she's wrong, sees Sandor and screams 'No!', and thus jumps in front of the bullet to protect His Rojesty? Bond never knew what was happening until it was all over.

lol I totally agree. He didn't kill her it looked more like she stepped right in front of the bullet. Roger's Bond was certainly oversexed, but he was the pure gentleman when it came to Bibi and Melina. I didn't think Rog couldn't see why people didn't like how he conned Solitaire (it's obvious), but he said on the LALD commentary "What's a man to do? You've gotta make a living." omg. And what he did to Ms. Goodnight was just wrong. So Roger did have his dark not so family friendly points. I hope "His Rojesty" wasn't like this in real life at any point (maybe not).
