The newswebsite of the Dutch James Bond Fanclub, www.jamesbondnederland.org and click then on Nieuws or Nieuwsupdates, has one of the first pictures of the Ford Mondeo, as seen in Casino Royale. There lovely pictures!

Thanks for posting. Direct link here. A very nice car, slightly spoilt by the very obvious manner of product placement used in the movie!

Is the Ford Mondeo built on the same platform as the Volvo S40 and the Mazda 3 (aka Axela)?

Not sure about the Volvo, but the Mazda 3 is smaller than both Mondeo and S40. The Mazda 3 is about the same size as the Ford Focus.

Nice interior.

Absolutly!
What do you guys think about het digital TFT screen inside het gauges?
I think it is nice, you can see it in a Mercedes S.

About the platforms.
I thought that it was the Focus, the Mazda3 and the Volvo S40.

I believe the Mondeo is the Euro version of the Ford Fusion. I bought one (Fusion) for my wife and they are very nice for the price. Hers is the all wheel drive 6 speed automatic.

Isn't the Fusion that Focus-type thing on pumped-up suspension? The Mondeo's bigger than a Fusion.

No, the Fusion is quite a bit larger than the Focus. Looks to be even slightly longer than the pics of the Mondeo. The Fusion is 191 inches long. Why not take a look on Fords website?

Based solely on what I found in wikipedia, apparently the Mondeo is built on the EUCD platform, which was derived from the C1 platform used in the Ford Focus (International as the Ford C170 chassis is used in the American Focus), the Volvo S40, the Volvo V50, the Volvo C30, the Mazda 5, and the Mazda 3.

I gather that the EUCD platform is larger than the C1 that is based on; but I haven't been able to get specifics of wheelbase, track, etc. Does anyone know for certain?

According to Ford's website the Mondeo is 4731mm (186.26") long, but they are not showing the new model that is featured in the film yet. The photos on the UK Ford site and wikipedia are of the older model, which looks exactly like the Ford Contour, which is smaller than the Fusion. The Contour was discontinued a few years ago. Ford came out with the Fusion to fill the mid-sized catagory in 2006, esentually replacing the Contour. So, an educated guess would be that the Fusion and new Mondeo are the same length and width, and built on the same frame. My stepfather is an exec. at Ford. I'll see if he can find any info for you.

If the Mondeo is in fact the same engine and chassis as the Fusion, it should be a nice car for the money. My wife's is the all wheel drive 6 speed V6 and it handles fairly impressively for a mid level sedan.

My favorite thing about the car is the nice little compartment in the center of the dash. :cooltongue:
