From Eva's revelations about Bond 22, I believe that Vesper was tricked into believing her (ex?) boyfriend was kidnapped and held hostage by the Organisation, when in reality he is a high ranking member of said Organisation. What do you think his role in the Organisation is and what his role in Bond 22 will be?

Just as long as he's not the head of it, someone at maybe Mr. White's level, or slightly above.

Yes, after all the reading I've done on what's available, that's pretty much the same thing I hope for. Not "The Big Boss," but a rather mid-level operative. After all, we need something to look forward to in Bond 23, eh?

Here's who I think the boyfriend is:

Someone who answers telephones and empties out the shredder occasionally refilling the water cooler

Yeah it might be a neat twist if it was revealed that the boyfriend had faked the kidnapping himself in order to manipulate Vesper into getting the poker money. That would really piss Bond off. It'd be good if the boyfriend were to be a Red Grant style physical and mental match for Bond. One of the (minor) complaints I've seen about CR is that there wasn't a main villain from start to finish, so a classic villain like that would be appropriate

Yeah, I can certainly see the boyfriend as being a mid-level operative. Perhaps superior to Mr White though. I don't want the main villain of BOND 22 to be the head of the organisation; presuming we have a trilogy, it'd be nice to see the head of the organisation confronted in BOND 23, perhaps having been introduced in BOND 22.

There are many interesting possiblities for how the events of Casino Royale will be revealed through the boyfriend character. Perhaps things were arranged so that one way or another, Obanno would be killed, and so therefore, the organization keeps his money. Perhaps Bond gets the money back from White, and the organization goes on the hunt for Bond. Perhaps the boyfriend ultimately has no remorse for Vesper.

I wonder whether this boyfriend storyline will turn Vesper into a complete victim. The novel was very compelling because of the twist that Vesper was a double agent. I hope that none of the impact of her deception and suicide are diluted because of the boyfriend.
