I think that Luc Besson would amke a good Bond 22 director. Just saw Leon The Professional, and you'd have to agree that Luc Besson's direction is perfect for something for Bond 22. The pace and style os his direction as well the relationship between Leon and Mathilda would make it perfect for Bond 22. I'd like to see Babs & Mike picking international directors like Wong Kar Wai, Fernando Meirelles or Luc Besson to direct a Bond film.

However the only problem with Luc is.....Eric Serra.

Not so sure. Eon have always gone for a British minded director and rightly so. And whilst Bond should cinematically honour the times, directors like Kar Wai and Besson are tricksy auteurs which does not tally with Eon's film making philosophy.

Leon is one of my favorite movies and while besson hasnt made a great movie in a while and has mainly been a producer i think like martin campbell that if he was given good material for a bond movie that he could make something great. Maybe he could even get gary oldman to be in it.

i agree though that it is unlikely that eon would go for him since they usually go for british directors who they can easily control

I'd be wary of this sort of decision. Besson is a fine filmmaker, but his style is so far removed from that of the previous Bond directors that he might have difficulty making a film we recognize as a 007 movie. Besides, when I think of this kind of thing, I can't shake the memories of all of John Woo's absolutely terrible American films.

Personally, I'd like to see Luc Besson direct a Bond film, based on his efforts in Nikita and Leon. I do realize it is a choice that carries some significant risk; but, the greatest rewards do not come without risk.

Please, no :cooltongue: way, NO! That would possibly mean a chance of Eric Serra returning to screw things up.

Personally, bring back Campbell!!!!!!!!

Well, if it is a package deal (that is Besson only does it if Serra does the music) then I would have to agree with you. My previous yes vote was made on the assumption that his directing did not imply any other staffing decisions for the film. While I like the Serra soundtrack for Nikita, I'm not at all eager for him to get anywhere near even one more note of a Bond score.

I say bring them both on board. I love both Besson and Serra's work, and I think that Besson would be sensible enough not to go too crazy with his directing quirks.

...And really, am I the only one who really likes Serra? Probably.

i like serra but i dont think he is a right fit for bond. i could however see besson doing a bond film but if eon does decide to take more risks and bring in a more imaginative director i would like for them to bring in somebody more different and suprising who could really shake up the franchise.

Bad choice IMO. He made a couple of great movies years back, but has only produced very poor hollywood copies. He's determined to to biuld a studio system in France to equal Hollywood. I'm no defender of Hollywood manufactured films, but his recent productions are certainly no equal to them.

Even if he were on form, he has far too much of an acutely eccentric style which would overshadow Bond in an 'unBond' fashion. If we're going for eccentricly styled Bond i'd prefer to see David Lynch's version; by comparison, Besson's would feel like a shampoo ad.

Personally i want the writing and directing team behind 'Sexy Beast' to have a stab at it.
