As most folks here know, Bond visits his wife Tracy's grave at the opening of For Your Eyes Only. In the novel On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Fleming writes that Bond makes annual visits to Vesper Lynd's grave near Casino Royale. Could this tidbit from the OHMSS novel have inspired the aforemention scene in the cinematic FYEO? Any one know?

Probably. You will be amazed how many tidbits in Casino Royale, or other Bond movies with "original" scripts, are lifted straight from unused elements in Fleming books.

Actually, Bond visiting Tracy's grave in FYEO was inspired by Maibaum and Wilson, who wrote the script, because at the time Moore said he wasn't going to return as Bond, and they did it to bring some continuity to make it easier for the new actor playing Bond. Moore eventually signed to play Bond again, and the scene was kept in anyway.

I honestly don't think it had anything to do with Bond visiting Vesper's grave or anything like that, although that could have been in the back of their minds' when writing this as they were putting in other elements of the novels back into the films by that point.

Well they didn't have the rights to CR, but that didn't stop them from using SPECTRE in FRWL and DN.

True. But the sequence were it mentions Bond's making annual visits to Vesper's grave is in On Her Majesty's Secret Service which they had the rights to, not Casino Royale.

Hopefully, it will just be in Bond 22. I like Vesper but Bond and the series need to move on to other Bond girls. As the saying goes, so many women, so little time.

It was also a nod to OHMSS the movie. The entire PTS is a middle-finger salute to Kevin McClory, what with the throwaway scene of Blofeld.

I was a little bit annoyed that they didn't mention anything about Blofeld on the FYEO DVD. It's still not confirmed by anyone at EON that that actually IS Blofeld at all.

DaveBond21 you have got me intrigued. What signifigance would the PTS in FYEO have to Kevin McClory. I honestly don't see the connection. Can you please enlighten me?

I think on the audio commentary they mention it though. It didn't have anything to do with Vesper.

My sentiments as well (er, except for the "I like Vesper" part). I've always wondered how much Halle Berry's film award during the filming of Die Another Day had to do w/ throwing things off pace in that film (remember the "Jinx films" they threatened to make?). Mind you, I think she is a fantastic actor in general, but couldn't stand her as a Bond girl.

Vesper was utterly not credible or interesting to me in the novel, and, tho' that bar was set so low, of little better interest in the film. Now, given that Tracy has had the grave site visit (whether borrowed from On Her Majesty's Secret Service, hidden message to McClory - as I believe one of the UE DVD commentaries does say - or whatever), my vote would be to leave Ms. Lynd swimming w/ the fishes.
