Watching the movies lately has got me thinking that the last time Bond had a classic briefing from M was back in GoldenEye.
I know the writers and producers are trying to keep things fresh and interesting. But damn it, I want a proper briefing. One where Bond sits in M's office, and is given the objectives of his mission. As we got with the earlier movies.
Granted with TND everything was done on the run. And in TWINE MI6 was blown up.
But in BOND 21 we should see a return to tradition.

A picture of Miranda Frost has already been released by Eon; showing her sitting in M's office receiving her briefing. So i think its safe to assume we'll see a classic "Frost Briefing" in Die Another Day.
As for the future... I think it really will depend on what the story calls for. In Tomorrow Never Dies as you said, it was appropriate that the scene did not take place in her office, because of the immediatness of the China situation. So, i think it's best off if we only see this scene take place if it really needs to be.
That said, i too would love to see the return of a full (and uniterupted) briefing in M's office. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what the future holds.

Yes, a classic M scene would be a welcome return for me. I liked the one in GE, with the screen behind her desk that went up, and her pouring some bourbon. What would be even better would be for Bond to walk into Moneypenny's office and say a few words with her, or for Q to come in when M's briefing is done and escort Bond to the Q labs.

Aside from the interruption, the scene in TWINE was pretty good, loved Apted's camera angles used for the scene. As for DAD, not sure whats gonna happen, despite reading most of the spoilers I could, I still do not know most of what happens.

One thing I have noticed about Judi Dench's M is that she has little interaction with Q. He's never in her office, she never mentions him. There is none of the old M's comedy about how ridiculous the gadgets are. They used to have a good working relationship. The new M never mentions his gadgets or him... Dench is too serious and this segregation of Q (comedy) and M means that Dench loses some appeal. She is becoming a bad boss and a very unsympathetic character especially with the bad air between her and Bond. Atleast the Old M had respect for Bond. Dench's respect for Bond seems a bit "tagged on". She always seems very cold to him... nothing like Bond and M's old relationship... "I remember the time that me and M..."! The writers need to stop playing around with the position of the New M (which is making her look like a bad boss... out of her depth, too trusting) and get her back behind a desk ala the start of TWINE (IMO that is your latest Bond/M briefing... when Bond returns from Bilbao but then they mess about with it by blowing up MI6) and start to create a decent relationship between M and Bond that grows to become more friendly as both characters progress with age.

I agree. I think it woudl be nice to see anther one of M's briefings once again. I also agree that the briefing has to take place when the time is right. Otherwise the briefing scence would be a "shot and miss"

Yeah, get Bond back in M's office. The variations in TND and TWINE were good but Bond had been given a briefing in M's office in nearly every film before that and a change wasn't really neccesary.
