the wonderful thing about the james Bond series is that you dont need to have seen the one before to enjoy the movie
i dont mind if a litle bit of storyline is caried over
like in the beginning of DAF - but i dont want B22 to be reliant on CR

M: Bond, do you remember the Le Chiffre incident?
Bond: Yes, considerably.
M: Well, we have some new information concerning the organization he worked for....

Barbara and Michael have 'shaken' things up with CR. I agree with TDalton, that we will get a little of both. Something like:
M: Bond, do you remember the Le Chiffre incident?
Bond: Yes, considerably.
M: Well, we have some new information concerning the organization he worked for....
I can't wait to see what ultimately happens with the Mr. White character. I think that he's quite possibly the most intriguing Bond villain since Blofeld was known to us only by voice. They could go in so many different directions with the Mr. White character and his involvement with his organization or SPECTRE (as has been talked about on these forums), and just how major a character he is in relation to the villains that are operating around him. I simply can't wait to find out where they take that character.

It will work very well as a film on its own.

I'm pretty excited that Bond 22 is going to continue parts of the storyline that Casino Royale has put into motion. I cannot wait to see how it turns out.
I agree wholeheartedly. And I hope the Dream Team follows the LOTR trilogy in one respect: pick up where the last left off and trust the audience to be up to speed. The first film trusted our intelligence. Let the second do the same and move right along with the magic of this groovy tale.

but if not i hope the new film has a great story,
with a decent script.
I really hope the producers don't go back to the
childish humour and laser bearing space satellites
of previous films.

Oh do I agree with you. I love Q but am not looking forward to backsliding into the formulaic. Craig as Bond has established that he can take care of business with his own two hands and not laser cigarette watch invisibility missiles.
I also think that the next story should mention a little from CR but should be a stand alone film.

Now though, I would be wholeheartedly disappointed if the next installment did not keep a stringent adherence to the storyline and characterizations of Casino Royale. If, all of a sudden, Bond was Bond as if he never were different, and there were no references to his dealings with LeChiffre, no one hitting nerves with mention of Vesper, no following through with the character of Mr. White or the organization behind him

Isn't it kind of hard to judge a movie if you haven't seen it all the way through?Ok, now i believe i know what im talkin about so correct me if i'm wrong. I didn't watch all of casino royale but i saw the end [by the way La... wuts his face died a crappy and simple way (a staple gun killed him, you just might as well shoot the dude, come on! EVERY VILLAIN SHOULD DIE A SPECIAL WAY: melt in acid, fly out a window of a plane, have a 600 ton station fall on ya, be carved into a million pieces, have some sort of golden pole crush your tummy, get thrown off the golden gate bridge, set yourself on fire, become dust from an airplane engine, blow up like a balloon or get thrown out of a train, or just plane and simple, GET BLOWN UP!!!) oh and i know we all miss the good old desmond llewelyn but every bond must have gadjets and i think john cleese was a good q] from the card game, and im not sure but the guy that i think was a villin and i'm pretty sure he'll be in bond 22. I don't think it'll be a sequel but it will be a Ernst Blofeld (?) kind of thing! (i mean the guy was in 4 frickin movies)

For some of us, LeChiffre did die in a special way because this is exactly how the character died in the book and the film version stayed true to that.

Worst. Idea. Ever.
No, I for one want a direct continuum to CR. Something that DAF should have been after OHMSS.
IMO, it would not be a wise move to ignore cr's story arch at this day and age. Now it's a time of new bond, one that wont forget the wrongdoings he had suffered in the last movie. I'm fine with a stand alone 3rd movie. But not 2nd.

I'm still hoping for a true adaptation of Live and Let Die as Bond 22. Even though it follows Casino Royale and Bond wants to deal SMERSH a blow for what they did to him and Vesper I still see it as a non-sequel book.
IMO that is the way it should be as well in the movies.

No sequel. I would like it to continue along the lines of the literary Moonraker. With Iran and North Korea trying to go nuclear in today's world, the time is right for a Moonraker missle scenario as per Fleming.
But they did that in DIE ANOTHER DAY. I'd prefer BOND 22 to continue with 007's pursuit of relatively "small time" villains, although I do appreciate that the topics of rogue states and nuclear terrorism don't necessarily have to be treated in a zany, OTT kinda way with side orders of gene therapy, invisible cars and diamonds in people's faces.

I'm all for that. But the very least I'd expect, and demand, as a Craig fan is that he deal consistently with Bond's unfinished business and show, show, show how this Bond becomes 'the Bond we all know and love.'
which is.....
If you are referring to the Bond of the past 20 films...I hope not. If you are referring to the Bonds of the books, then that's another story.
I for one, believe that Ian Fleming was a creative genius. Every element of his work showed that. Because Casino Royale had so much "Fleming" in it, including the character of James Bond, can anyone really be surprised with the film's success?
Eon should continue down this reboot road. Warner Brothers/Batman franchise have done it with Batman Begins and there is so much anticipation for the sequel "The Dark Knight." Heavy rumor is that Heath Ledger's Joker will not even be wearing white makeup and a purple suit (according to my BF). Like Batman, Bond should follow up on Casino Royale and at the same time continue to make Bond as humanly realistic as possible.
