Eva Green did very well - even though I still think the makeup and panda eyes way over the top! But for striking, solid, great acting and strong personality would have preferred either Kate Winslet or Rachel Weisz. Selecting either would have been as courageous as Daniel Craig's selection as Bond - and see how well that worked out! The chocolate box standard beauty package is getting so routine - it would be nice to get a real character lady in upcoming Bond movies. Kate Winslet is like a young Judy Dench - now that should be a fascinating dynamic - both with Bond and with M.

I thought Eva Green was perfect for the role. Having someone like Kate Winslet who is so famous for so many other characters would have detracted from the character of Vesper. I feel that this is the potential problem of casting Hollywood superstars in Bond movies.

Yes, I agree. The actress playing the bond girl should never be more famous than the actor playing Bond. Reasonably unknown actress fit best.

Eva Green, Daniel Craig, and Brandon Routh are the best examples of casting I have seen in 10 years.

She was perfect, in every way. I simply looked at the woman and went "that's Vesper," having read Casino Royale. A name actress would have pulled me right out of the film, and all the other choices you mention seem a bit old to me. She is supposed to have that mixture of innocence and mysteriousness, which was nailed.

Vesper Lynd just is, and forever will be, Eva Green to me. And as far as I'm concerned, no one else could touch it.

Thats a good point but there is a difference in casting someone like Angelia Jolie as opposed to Kate Winslet. Jolie is a mega watt, block buster movie star, whereas Winslet (and Weisz) are actors who often take roles in independent and low budget movies. All of a sudden we have a brilliant leading man in Daniel Craig so why not get fully wet and go for the whole package and have a brilliant leading lady? (Yes, I know you like Eva Green, and she is good as Vesper, but then everybody said that about Pierce Brosnan when he was Bond too!)

i believe kate winslet and rachel weisz were better known throughout then daniel craig. while they are not always in the tabloids as much as someone like angelina people still know them and id rather have someone that is less known but still a good actor that can make us believe in the character better.

I loved Eva Green's performance as Vesper. I remember early on wanting Weisz for the role of Moneypenny (before we had heard there would be no Moneypenny!).

I thought Eva WAS a brilliant leading lady, I don't know what else Angelina or Kate or Rachel would have brought to the proceedings that she didn't. I personally think that the texture and quality of the role required someone you didn't associate with another persona or role. When you cast it like that, you run the risk of UNDERcasting, which is what I was afraid of with Green. I wasn't particularly blown away by her announcement, or early photos, or any of her performances in the trailer.

But boy, did she prove me wrong in the finished film. She's my favourite Bond girl now, without question, and one of my favourite actresses to be part of the franchise as well.

I disagree on Winslet, she is a good actress, but there is this mature quality about her that would not have suited the character of vesper, Eva Green on the other hand is a fresh face with a set of eyes that can hide so many things behind them, she was perfect for Vesper. As for Weisz, I don't know , she never impressed me much.
I had my doubts about Green until I watched kingdom of heaven The director's cut( the theatrical version was butchered by 20century Fox),the directors cut made an OK movie become brilliant, and Eva green role was expanded and deepened, she gave an amazing performance, one full of strength and vulnerability, and she didn't disappoint in CR.
so NO I don't see anybody else in Vesper's role but Eva green.

Winslet is too famous, and I don't think she would have been right for the part anyway. Weisz is just flat-out wrong (I definitely get more of a Moneypenny vibe).

Rose Byrne still seems to me the best alternative option. Could have gone either way compared to Green, but alas we'll never know. Eva was damn near perfect as is, though, so no complaints here.

Excuse me while I puke!

Eva Green is incomparable. Have you seen The Dreamers?

Winslet and Weisz have that English Chubby/Fat look about them...totally unsuitable for a Bond Girl.

Kate Beckinsale...now that's another story.
